Your state is bankrupt. You've had to cut many government services while increasing taxes to one of the highest rates in the country. You have budget deficits as far as the eye can see and an unemployment rate increasing, which means even less income in tax revenue. What do you do?

If you are a liberal, you appease the education unions and build the most expensive school in the nation. Over $500 million dollars. Hey, it's a pretty nice school though.

A showpiece. An impressive environment. Yeah, that's what a bankrupt state needs, a showpiece. Impressive alright.

Is it any wonder why the rest of the nations considers California to be somewhat of a joke? The problem is, this really isn't funny. What justifies this?
