Your state is bankrupt. You've had to cut many government services while increasing taxes to one of the highest rates in the country. You have budget deficits as far as the eye can see and an unemployment rate increasing, which means even less income in tax revenue. What do you do?
If you are a liberal, you appease the education unions and build the most expensive school in the nation. Over $500 million dollars. Hey, it's a pretty nice school though.
Joe Agron, editor-in-chief of American School & University explains it this way - "Districts want a showpiece for the community, a really impressive environment for learning." How quaint. A showpiece. An impressive environment. Yeah, that's what a bankrupt state needs, a showpiece. Impressive alright.
Is it any wonder why the rest of the nations considers California to be somewhat of a joke? The problem is, this really isn't funny. What justifies this? Who gave this project the authority and funding to continue. Nancy Pelosi wants the people who object to the Ground Zero mosque investigated. She wants to investigate those who are funding the objections. Does she look into the funding of this pet project?
