Do you know where you fall on the political spectrum? First of all, "spectrum" may not be the perfect term since it implies that different political ideologies fall along a single line. When we say someone is a liberal on the left or a conservative on the right that really oversimplifies things.

Probably the best representation of political ideologies that I have seen is one in which each political ideology is plotted on a graph that shows the degree of economic freedom and social freedom (i.e. freedom from government involvement) associated with that ideology.

If you view it this way then anarchists fall at the upper right since they do not believe in government at all and totalitarians fall at the lower left since they believe government should regulate all economic and social aspects of life.

Libertarians agree with Thomas Jefferson's general sentiment that "That government that governs least governs best". However, libertarians do believe that government should provide for a basic legal system and a national defense. Consequently, libertarians are not anarchists.

Conservatives generally believe in minimal government intervention in the economy but generally want the government to regulate some aspects of social life, (i.e. drug laws and marriage). Conservatives while preferring limited government agree with John Adams who said, "If men were angels no government would be necessary".

Liberals generally believe in minimal intervention by the government in social affairs but believe in various degrees of government intervention in the economy, (i.e. health care mandates).

Socialists generally believe in extreme regulation of the economy by the government (i.e. complete state ownership and nationalization of all industries and property).


Now look at the same diagram with famous politicians plotted according to their political ideology.

Not only opposition to Obama, but opposition to all things left-wing has been called racist by every left-winger under the sun. I find it sad for real racism, but it's funny to me when left wingers say that now... because it's done. The race card is dead. Somewhere over the election of Obama and the MSM whining about racism on a weekly basis, calling someone a racist has become a joke unto itself. Regardless of what this means for actual racism, it is very liberating for conservatives... unlike before when being called a racist required a defense to prove you were not... now-a-days it only requires a hearty laugh, a nod, and a sarcastic yeah, you must be right.

Which brings me to my point. Tonight on O'Reilly Factor we had Monica Crowley filling in for the ever-vacationing Mr Bill. But Monica had Mark Sawyer, Ph.D (black liberal) and Chris Metzler Ph.D (black conservative) to discuss some crap said on MSNBC about white Americans going crazy this election season. Monica Crowley immediately pointed out that was ridiculous because Obama could not be elected without white people, so the notion they have become racists over the past 18 months is absurd.

This led the stupid liberal to claim that a lot of people are racist, and those that are not allowed Fox News and the Republican Party to scare them into fearing a black president over the past 18 months.

That led to me laughing out loud... but I digress...

This also led to Monica Crowley suggesting that the left-wing voices have become completely irrational in their arguments by pointing out racism where it obviously does not exist and the only people that find that honest are the far-left. She suggests inability to play the race card like the left has always done in the past has lead to some seriously flawed arguments... arguments that the left did not have to make in the past when the race card was still disarming. Now it seems to me that playing the race card is not an automatic winner like it was in the past, now it is an automatic loser.

And this led to the liberal Mark Sawyer, Ph.D laughing at Monica and saying that she would have a point if the race card actually existed... he claimed there was simply no such thing and the Democrats have never painted people as racists as a means to avoid the debate.

That seemed to confirm Monica's point that those on the left are simply going crazy without the ability to brand the opposition as racist. I've never heard anyone say the race card did not exist... I've heard people use the race card, and I've heard people accuse people of using the race card... I've never heard anyone claim the race card doesn't exist. I think maybe Monica Crowley was on to something to think that left-wingers simply don't know what to do now that demonizing their opponents with the word racist is suddenly working against them.

I really think that since Obama's election that just about everyone that doesn't agree with 100% of everything Obama does has been called a racist, a bigot, or an idiot at some point, by some media outlet or another... there is no turning back from this and never again will calling people racist be a winning argument.
