I speak English, I understand a basic concept of Latin root words, Greek Root words,
and learned a smidgen of Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Thai, Indian, Indonesian, from reading cook books. They make a nice rosetta stone for learning words. If you see two Chicken dishes in A thai cookbook and the same word is featured, that's probably the word for Chicken.

English and Russian... I have a russian friend i go to college with... I teach her calculus she teaches me russian. Im currently debating taking up Mandarin...I think learning to speak chinese will be very useful in the future
Best way to learn is to move to the country... if thats too difficult try looking for ethnic speakers in your area and pay for lessons or enroll in a local college...

English only. I have no interest in learning other languages and I make no apologies for it.
Unlike the Liberal Messiah - his Highness - The One - The Liberal god-Man with the education, greek columns and all the theatrics, I don't use the word "um" when I speak though. Guess I missed out on that little goodie when I learned to talk.

You probably have a point there.
Does anyone know anything about those Rosetta Stone programs? I see them advertised on tv all the time. Just wondering if anyone had used them, and what kind of success rates they have with people using them to learn.

^^ ive used rosetta stone programs...I think they are good but if you want to grasp more than a basic understanding you will need something more...But to get you started its very good.

English, only here. It wouldn't hurt more people in this country learning it so we could do away with push one for English, it makes me sick!

Make no mistake: English is my language, and I believe all who live here should speak it, but its hard not to pick up things

I think that those who come here need to learn English, but I also see no harm in learning another language.
