Thats my dad, me and my uncle andy. The dog is mine, his name is Duke...and he sure loves swimming in the lakes in November! Most of the ducks are buffleheads...little black and white ducks which you find on large lakes and rivers.
Me, Ken, Garrit, Dan (all very good right-wingers) ;) Gotta love goose hunting!

Down in Kansas...ouch! 49 birds. (There were lots of kids there so we were of corse, withing our limits!)

Mallards lost this battle to the Avery Youth Field staffers, which I was a part of!

Look at all of our goose decoys!

:icon_cry: Did you eat those ducks? Which one are you in the picture?
We had a pair of ducks here yesterday that came for a swim in the pool. So cute!
*Edit*Ahh...I see you did eat the ducks.

Yes, TL, we eat all of them! Sometimes some will go to friends and family, or even food pantrys when they need meat!

Okay, so long as you are eating all of them.
I'm not sure if we have many hunters here on the site. I think that KSig may have mentioned hunting once.

I was not really planning on going back over there, AP. It was amusing for a couple of days. Sometimes I like to just float around to see what is out there, but I'm not so sure I'd want to stick around with the sort of racist crap that goes on there. I'm pretty happy that TAR got a couple of new quality members from it though! :icon_bigg

I really don't think we've ever had a thread for hunters, so this may be pretty good. When KSigMason stops in again, we'll see if he's got something to add.

do geese taste good?

Absolutly! I used to sell goose jerky at high school for 10 bucks per ziplock bag! I had kids lined up at break!
Jerky, Cabobs, and making fajita meat are the main ways we eat ducks and geese. Very lean meat.

I hear Moose is awesome... or was it elk?

I had some moose once,it was the best tasting meat I've ever had, fish and game gave it to my family,it was a poached animal, they said it was a yearling (basically a calf)
Had cougar backstrap once too,it was dang tasty, though I don't usually eat predators, just don't seem right.

LOL, yep, usually stick to those animals with hooves, webbed feet, and fins. - Not claws hah!

What's makes a real good jerky you can really gnaw on?
I hate when 'jerky' is soft and chewy... dried meats should give the jaw a workout

The right spice...(cracked pepper/garlic seasoning imo)
Not chewy, and not like a crispy chip...right in the middle ;)

I rarely read everything that I get from the NRA, but this happened to catch my eye and I thought I'd pass it on for our hunters here:

NRA Website Solicits Member Hunt Reports
Did you have an exceptionally good hunting trip last season you'd like to share with other NRA members?
NRAhuntersrights.org (http://www.nranews.org/UM/T.asp?A2.62.4492.1.5500050) is accepting brief reports and photos from members who want to tell others about their recent hunting experiences. We're looking for information that could help your fellow hunters plan an exciting experience afield, with a great outfitter and guide, as well as sort through any confusing regulations you may have encountered or travel issues along the way. Don't think of it as writing an article - think of it as telling your hunting buddies what the trip was like.
All we're looking for is about 500 words, but you can go longer if you need to. We have to have a good, sharp photo from the hunt, contact information for the guide and outfitter, plus any other information about the hunt you want to give us.
How to Submit a Report: It's easy. Just write it up in your own words and send it to huntersrights@nrahq.org. Write "Hunt Report" in the subject line. We'll consider it, and if it meets our criteria we'll post it and let you know when it's up.
http://www.nrahuntersrights.org/
It seems to me that your family hunting trip with all of the great photo's, would be a great submission for this, A-P. I hope that you will consider this.
Also, there is a special right now where you can join the NRA on a one year membership for just $25. There are a lot of benefits in this, and you even get a free NRA bag to tote around some of your gear. Here: www.nra.org/GunSurvey (http://www.nra.org/GunSurvey)

With the rising cost of food, I am wondering if we have any hunters on the site, or anyone who would cosider taking up hunting.
Just being curious here.
