On March 23, 2007, a reception was held at the Tamiment Library at New York University. The occasion was the official opening of the archives of the Communist Party USA. The keynote speaker was Gerald Horne, noted Communist and contributing editor of the Communist Party journal, Political Affairs.
He continued, “Eventually, he befriended another family – a Euro-American family – that had migrated to Honolulu from Kansas and a young woman from this family eventually had a child with a young student from Kenya East Africa...who goes by the name of Barack Obama...who...eventually decamped to Chicago.

Communism isn't nearly the threat that most people think it is. And, no, I don't say that because I think it is non-threatening. It is. Very. But for so many people, the images Communism conjures up are of the old Soviet or Chinese armies marching in lockstep in front of the political leadership as a show of strength.
The true danger in Communism is the core of collectivist ideals it embraces. It places the strength of the nation on top of everything else, usually at the expense of the individual. What are the lives of the few compared to the success of the motherland or fatherland? And for a very long time, that's precisely what America opposed. We were a nation that championed the individual over all else. The government was the servant of the individual and not the other way around.
That's why it's so disturbing to see people ride an anti-red wave. Many completely miss the point and have ignored an abhorrent collection of ideals in favor of channeling energy into fighting a corporeal enemy. Meanwhile, the collectivist goals of those in power continue to pervade our culture. The idea of a national healthcare system would never have gained momentum in America a century and a half ago. Now, both parties are fighting over who gets to create one. And most people who despise Communism simply accept this with muted indifference as inevitable.
We are constantly told by the Left that we need the government to protect us from ourselves. And the Right tells us that we need the government to protect us from the scary terrorists. The message from both sides is the same: we need the government to protect us. Not to secure our rights, as is the proper role of a republican form of government. No, it's our protector and guardian. It's here to keep us safe, babies that we are.
We're so busy holding rifles and standing guard against the red enemy that we haven't noticed how deeply collectivism has enrooted itself in our culture. Nor do we really care as long as we get to yell out against the red menace.

Pons: To hear you tell it, we don't need government at all. You're an anarchist.
