I dont see why not. When we read The Grapes of Wrath when I was a Junior we watched a documentary on migrant workers from the 50's. I can only try to describe the conditions they faced. For minimum wage they worked in extreme temperatures, with unclean water, breathing in dangerous chemicals, and a hole host of uncomfortable conditions. Chavez organized them and got them their rights. Like any employee they are well deserving of them if they work hard and earn them.

Well if the conditions were so bad then nobody would work in the fields and the free market would naturally make conditions better, right? </sarcasm>
Never read Grapes of Wrath. But I've heard about the migrant workers who pick grapes out past Palm Springs. They sleep on cardboard.
I'll be driving through the California Central Valley later this month. Isn't that where most of the Grapes of Wrath takes place?
I'm waiting for Pons to come in here and put a spin on this to emphasize the need to treat migrant workers like shit.
