When asked why Richardson was not arrested at the scene, Harrisburg Police Chief Charles Kellar said officers did not at first realize how serious Snell's injuries were. Officers had planned to charge Richardson with simple assault, a misdemeanor that is often handled through a mail summons.


Snell is no stranger to controversy. He's been criticized for putting graphic pictures of just-aborted fetuses on the front lawn of his Walnut Street home.

He's been arrested more than a dozen times and once spent three days in a Vermont prison while protesting with Lambs of Christ and Operation Rescue, organizations known for physically disrupting abortion clinics. Snell also has been arrested in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

Since the incident, Snell said his family has urged him to reconsider his approach to protesting at clinics. While it's not going to stop him in his fight to end abortion, Snell said, it's caused him to contemplate changing his tactics.

I certainly do not condone beating someone up just because they are pro-life, but I don't think it is proper for them to be protesting outside an abortion clinic, especially without protection or other protesters who have a permit to protest. I don't agree with having an abortion myself, but I don't think you can tell women what to do with their bodies, especially if you are a man.

Also, teaching abstinance is not going to work because no one is going to abstain from sex. Even with birth control pills, condoms, and IUD's, they sometimes don't work and women end up pregnant when they didn't want to be or even are not healthy enough to get pregnant. I have two friends right now who are pregnant totally by accident. They are not getting abortions thank God, but one had a condom break and the other one has an IUD implanted and it didn't work and her pregnancy is going to be dangerous at the end because the have to take that out before the baby is born and it is going to cause problems. Anyway, people are not going to abstain if they don't want children. That is stupid because most guys are not going to date you if you say you're waiting until you want children to have sex.

I do believe abortion should only be used if the woman's health is in danger. I don't think it should be used as a form of birth control.

Yes, you do need a permit to protest too. See what I mean by saying our rights are being usurped and the Federal government is putting too many restrictions on the people? Think about it.

Intercourse exists to one end, and one end alone. That is pro-creation. That it is extremely pleasureble is a by product.

First off, if there are such things it's not the Feds enforcing it or legislating it, it's probably the local govt.

And unless I'm mistaken, this permit is necessary if it's going to disrupt the normal activities of the city, eg: a march down mainstreet USA that would need the city to co-ordinate logistics so that the city doesn't come to a grinding halt. Somehow I doubt that you need a permit to stand on a street corner with a sign, as the VICTIM in this story was doing.
