The Tennessee arm of the American Civil Liberties Union (http://www.aclu-tn.org/index.htm) voiced its opinion against school uniforms today, saying they would seriously infringe on student's rights.

In a letter to the Board of Education, the group urged board members to vote against the policy because it bans most forms of student expression.

The Metro Board of Education (http://www.mnps.org/site3.aspx) is scheduled to vote on the issue Tuesday. Link (http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070404/NEWS04/70404069/1001/NEWS)

I'm against School uniforms. But that's because I'm against anything that will smack of more governmental control.

A uniform may be much, but a dress code would do well. The purpose of schools is to prepare the kids for the real world; you want to express yourself take an art class. When you get a job you will most likely have a dress code, and if you dont follow it you can say good bye to your job. Its cheating the kids, something the left is good at.

A dress code, I'm down with, so long as it does not ban the use of Confederate battle flags, which is a symbol of Southern Heritage.

Something else that is unconstitutional.. Violates the "Free Exercise" Clause.
