"Overnight temperatures dropped into the teens again early Monday in parts of the San Joaquin Valley, where many of the state's oranges and lemons are grown, according to the National Weather Service. The subfreezing conditions came after a weekend of record lows."
While this is a tradgedy and I feel for those growers and consumers who will be affected by this, I can't help thinking... Where is Al Gore when you need him??

When temperatures briefly touched 70 degrees in January, the press was ripe (no pun intended) with news about how global warming was the cause.

So now they have record lows in California... well, where are the reports of global warming? AL .... oh AL... ???

We're a global ice machine over here guys! I had to go outside yesterday to talk to my new gardner and was absolutly shocked at how cold it was. It looks sunny. It's pleasant to sit here and look out the window, but thanks to Global Icing, this California girl is staying inside by the nice cozy fireplace.:icon_wink

Oh, we've had icicles on trees in our yard lately during the early morning hours. 1st time in my 46 years here I've seen that!

I have been wanting to say something too. It's cold out here for CA. It's been way worse for the rest of the states.

Although, they keep reporting at how bad the weather in most of all the states, I haven't heard a peep from the press and all the hell raising global warming nuts about that subject.

South Texas is also getting a gigantic "Artic Blast." My city, the City of San Antonio, has practically shut down because of ice and sleet. Believe it or not it’s supposed to snow tonight here. It’s been over 22 years since it snowed in my area...

Yes and what has been the big local news story focus here in California regarding this freeze and of our citrus? It has been the presses pity party over the job losses illegal aliens will suffer. You hearing this up your way Bee? The presses down here have been showing video's of new shelters being set up in agricultural areas for illegal workers who may not be able to pay their rents.

San Diego has a lot of avocado growers that are really going to suffer but the focus is not on the orchard owners and the loss of their investment. Nope....no sympathy for them. Where's Al Gore and his Hollyweird freak show marathon raising money and concern for the farmers who are about to bite the big one in California's freeze?????

Yes TL, it seems their first concern are for the illegals. I was reading letters in the newspaper about the peoples concern over global warming, just today....right in the middle of all this cold weather. People have been completely brainwashed.

We could use some of that global warming in my neck of the woods. Our day time temps have been in the 20's for almost 2 weeks and our night time temps haven't hit the teens. Brrrrrrr.

Where we usually get about 1 ft of snow (+ -) over the course of our winter, this year we're lucky to have an inch so far. Knew we were in for trouble when it didn't snow at least once before Halloween.

I don't want to see citrus growers get slammed, not only does it mean a loss of income for them but citrus prices will go up as well. Still, there will be fewer jobs for the illegals.

Guess its time to load up on dehydrated fruit while supplies last. :icon_wink

No one wants to believe it cause it was overused so much back in the late 90's, but this is sure fire El Nino.

But this wont stop Global Warming Nuts. Damn them and their ever so convenient short memories and attention spans.

There are citrus crops just a few miles from my house. Let's hope they survive. My uncle lives out in the Temecula Valley Wine Country, and down the street from him is this lemon grove. Apparently, on cold nights, the grove owner fires up those propeller-on-top-of-a-pole things, which in this case are actually Flathead Ford V-8s on poles. I'm sure it's a noisy night out there right now!

Those avocado growers out in Fallbrook and De Luz will be facing destruction too. Let's hope they pull through.

It was in the low 30s this morning when I walked to the bus wearing jeans and a sweatshirt (COLD!). I almost slipped on ice a few times.

Up in Sacramento it was 20 degrees at night.

And yet, with all this cold, NO SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. The one year I have enough for some quality skiing at Lake Tahoe, there's no snow there. Same down here in Big Bear. It didn't snow here, but up in Fontana it did.

Where is all the crying about "global warming"? I was talking to my aunt today about it and I told her, "It's really really cold out, a sure sign of global warming" (sarcasm).

Just proves that climate experiences yearly shifts.

Governor Schwarzenegger has aked the federal government for disaster aid because of on going cold.

Last night Santa Barbara hit a record low of 24 degrees.

Expect your prices to go up. If you bought an orange at the supermarket for 50 cents, expect to pay a dollar to $1.49 for it. This is according to the owner of Royal Vista Marketing, which sells California citrus to markets throughout the country.

It has been pretty warm in Pennsylvania for the past few days, warmer than usual. My nieghbors tree is actually starting to get buds on it. A front came through and now it is cold and windy.

Micheal Savage was saying the same thing on his show about where the hell Al Gore is with all of this coldness.

Here in California, it actually snowed today in Brentwood and in Malibu. Snow!? I can hardly believe it. :icon_surp

Ah but you see this whole global warming thing is self fulfilling. You're getting snow cause you didn't get rain cause places like Seattle instead of getting blue skies had rain rain rain. Now if global warming wasn't real, the ice caps wouldn't have melted causing all the rain and you'ld have sunshine this winter instead of snow.

And the Tsunami's , they wouldn't be as big as they are if the ice caps hadn't started melting.

We aren't having the hurricanes we normally have cause the cold air stimulates those and with global warming heating up the air its reducing hurricanes cause the water is colder from melting ice caps.

See it all makes sense. You just have to think this stuff through.

Seriously Wadi, they can't possibly come out with those excuses. Or can they? Come to think of it, they've said dumber stuff than that.

I think what Bumbles is saying is the point you're making Wadi: Global Warming is utter and complete madness.

The world is getting warmer - anyone who denies that wasnt taught how to read a simple line graph. The reason is up for debate - and yes, there are scientists on both sides of the discussion (although the majority do agree that man has had an impact on CO2 levels whch in turn increases global temps).

I dont understand why people are so against taking measures to decrease human CO2 levels. I see tons of opportunity for cleaner fuel and cleaner energy. Where one industry might die, others will flurish. Let Capitalism run its course and there could be unlimited profits available. Plus it would loosen the grip that ME countries have on us - our addiction to oil is funding those who wish to kill us.

actually global warming would cause an ice age...

If i remember correctly from my geography classes...IF/When the icecaps melt the cold water will push the jet stream further south so less warm water will be traveling up the coast. This would then allow more cold high pressure systems from the arctic to stagnante over that area.

Persoanlly i beleive this is the earhts natural cycle or attempt to acheive homeostasis. IF we are making the world too warm, then world will attempt to cool itself down. WE've had many iceages in the past (if you beleive in that sort of thing) so we've had periods of hot weather and then the earth cooled down..

I know they are a big polluter - but we are the leader of the world and need to set the example for others to follow.

Using your logic, we should be out beheading and really torturing people becasue, hey, the terrorists do it so why shoulndt we?

I know they are a big polluter - but we are the leader of the world and need to set the example for others to follow.

Using your logic, we should be out beheading and really torturing people becasue, hey, the terrorists do it so why shoulndt we?We already set the example which is why the USA is as clean as it is. You should have seen things 30 years ago. Back then people saw what environmentalist were talking about and got on board. It isn't perfect, but we aren't the ones causing the big problem. Polution is coming from countries with dictators, go after them. We've done our part. Big manufacturing companies are riddled with guages and meters and warning bells and whistles. The EPA has already set tough standards and if a company is found in violation (they have to check all these guages and meters daily and keep an accurate record) they're hit with huge fines. The EPA even does spot checks on companies. It cost companies million upon million to comply.

Global warming is BS. The whole thing is a scare tactic by liberals to get us back to the Kyoto table. I've said it before and I'll say it again, go after the ones causing the problems and stop trying to choke off US businesses.

Hey you know, you might have something there about beheadings. Maybe we should take the gloves off. If they can do it, why can't we?
