View Full Version : Spam
Over the past few weeks there has been a large increase in the amount of spam that has entered the site. This is usually done by robot accounts.
In the next few days I hope to implement a way of stopping this or at least reducing it considerably.
In the meantime, if you see posts for 'free movies' or other things that look like spam, ignore them, don't click the links and let me or one of the moderators know.
I apologize for this but it's one of the things that happens as sites get a bit larger.
I have made a modification that will hopefully reduce the spam. Now any new registrations will also have to answer a simple question before the registration will be accepted. This will hopefully make it difficult for the spam bots to figure out.
The spammers won't give up but, there are always ways.
I have also implemented another measure to control these punks. Posts by new users that meet certain criteria will be sent into the the moderation queue until those posts are approved. So for new users, you may not see your posts immediately after they are submitted.
I apologize to our legitimate users but such is life on the Internet.
Established users will not be affected by this latest restriction.
(See what happens when Democrats gain control. :icon_wink)

TARlings, I know that some of you are noticing the up-tick in the spam in the blog section of the site. I am doing all I can to keep it at a minimum. But most of it seems to be posted overnight - so I can't get to it till morning. But I am checking it first thing every day.
Please - please just ignore it until I can get here to remove it. Don't click on any of the links that these people post here. Just ignore it entirely. If it looks like I'm missing some advertisement though, please do let me know, via a PM.
