I'm the type of gamer that likes to stick to a few select games.

Sony - SOCOM. The seventh installment is coming out for PS3.
Microsoft - Halo
Nintendo - Zelda and Resident Evil.

If I had to choose between the three, it would be PS3 because of SOCOM. I've been playing the series since the first one came out.

I have been saving my money and I'm going to put everything I can into a new computer, any suggestions?

Well overall if you want to save money and have a reliable system your best bet is to buy from Dell and then make small upgrades to get what you want. Thats what I did. If money isn't an object and you have a very VERY good knowledge of computers you can just order the parts off Newegg and build it yourself.

However unless you are an expert computer user I don't recommend doing that. I'm far more knowledgable than most of my friends when it comes to computers, but most of them custom built where I bought from Dell. The thing is computers are so much more complex that most people realize, unless your a Digital Electronics expert there is no point to putting one together by yourself.

How much money do you have to work with, and what will you use it for?
Answer those and I can recommend the parts you want!

BTC seems to know a thing or two about computers, so I would recommend that he buy the parts and put them together himself. It's a lot cheaper than buying a PC. If not, then I would recommend a Dell. They seem to be the most flexible in customization.

I plan on using it for gaming and video editing. Right now I'm planning on building it myself and going with:
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX

I'm not sure on the rest. Thx for the help

Building it yourself is, like I said, so much more complicated than it sounds. I would recommend a Daul Core AMD 64 bit over the intel Core Duo, but thats more of a matter of taste, they are both extremely good processors. As for the 8800 GTX, well, yea. You literally can't do any better than that card.

I recommend you consult some computer experts before you build it yourself. I built the first computer I ever owned but I built it with my Grandpa(Worked for IBM for 37 years and is an expert in old fashioned and new fangled Dig Elec.).
My friend just built a similar system to yours but its running at about 70% of what it could because he didn't know what he was doing and probably doesn't have everything set up properly.

Thats true, but speaking only Graphics wise computers in general have consoles beat.

I think my AMD 4200+ 64 bit daul core, 1 gig of DDR 667 MHZ RAM, XFX 7900 GS OC'ed 595 Core 1.68 GHZ memory can handle most consoles. And better systems CERTAINLY can.
My 360 will blow any computer away for the simple fact that mine has games and is strictly for games. I turn it on and it works and bam, online with the world. It is made strictly for gaming and all of my gaming needs. Xbox Live alone is worth it. Setting on my coach with my wireless controller talking to my brother 1000 miles away killing little kids that call me gay and say they do my mom.............. PRICELESS.................

Thats what a computer company needs to do is come out with a system. Wait, thats microsoft. No wonder it kicks butt.

The next round of games that really use all of the new stuff in the 360 are coming out. GRAW 2 is just the all time military game. Next gen to the fullest. Download the multi and campaign demos for free. Thats what I did because I am brokeless right now and I have been intertained for hours. Also the new Command and Conquer 2. Just rocks.

The 360 is certainly an impressive system, but my computer still is one of the best around for gaming. Actually, its good, but not even the best anymore. Consoles are amazing when they first come out, but get ripped apart within a couple of months by new technology.

And I do all the things you do, over the internet, with my computer.
The difference being when little kids call me gay over Counter Strike I just mute/ban them :D

I can boot them to and then make it to where they can never be matched up with me again. But where is the fun in that.

I have just had bad experiences with computer games. I just got done playing a rollercoaster sim game and it froze on me. Now everytime I load it up it freezes. I have never been able to finish a game on a computer because of it. Hell I don't even surf the web on a computer. I got MSNTV 2. I only use computers for work. Maybe because it feels like a am working and not relaxing doing what I want. Right now I am sitting in my bed looking at my TV screen drinking milk. Not sitting in front of a computer. Me and my little ways.

I just read about the new Comand and Conquer 3 game for the computer. The graphics look freaking killer. That and the babe from Battlestar Galactica is in it. (the cylon pilot) She is hot. If you like those kind of stratigy games I highly recomend it. I already played the demo for the 360 and it rocks.

I got a PS3 just recently. I have an HDMI hooked up to my 1080p DLP TV and how good the picture looks is unbeleiveable. You know, you could spend $599 on the X-Box to get the same amount of memory for the Xbox 360, and the X-Box still can't play Blu-Ray discs.

I got Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and I also purcahsed NCAA 2k7 and will pick up Oblivion soon. I will also tell you this. Only get a PS3 if you have an HDTV. Then get that HDMI cable if you can use one.

I didn't quite understand this. Also, what is so special about the Blu-Ray?

Can't you hooka 360 to HD.

Blu-Ray is an entirely different format than DVD's, and its far more detailed, advanced, high up, whatever you wanna call it. Basically youi have to spend 600 bucks to upgrade the original Xbox to the memory capacity of the 360.

AKA console systems are garbage

Blu-Ray usn't all that. I have seen the PS3 and I don't think the games are any better then my 360.

Why would you spend $600 to make a system have enough memory then a system that doesn't even cost that much. Why don't you just buy the 360. That and the 360 totally rocks. Why do I want to sit at my work desk and play games when I can di it in my lazyboy sitting in front of my big screen listening to my suround sound with the walls vibrating when I pop off some rounds playing GRAW 2 with my buddies from four different states?

Well, it's a year later, now I'm getting into the whole 360/ps3 thing.

For entirely different reasons mind you.

I'm looking at developing a totally kick ass home theater system. Essentially an LCD projector on a 120" screen for special viewing (DVD's and watching Ohio State pwn University of Michigan etc) and a 60" lcd TV for regular TV viewing.

I want to have the whole system run by a PC, but the PC i want is about 7k for the box itself. So, in the mean time I was thinking about using a PS3 or 360 Elite to run it.

So here's what I've learned/figured out so far, anyone feels like adding to this list or correcting me, knock yourself out.

There is a USB Keyboard accessory for the PS3 as well.

Anyways, I just bought Assassin's Creed for the PS3. I must say, it is kickass.

Assassin's Creed blows. I bought it for my 360 the day it came out and it SUCKED! I just beat it to get the achievements, then took it back. I had fun killing people for the first several minutes, but it just got way too repetitive. The storyline imo isn't that indept (or it never really hooked me) and it was just too boring. Go to this city, save citizen, climb viewpoints, grab a bunch of flags, kill the guy, next level. Over and over and over again.

Also, Mass Effect came out, and while I'm enjoying playing it, there are several problems that I am very disappointed about. There's all sorts of glitches, like my character got stuck in a wall, then a rock, then he fell through the ground as I was walking like it was quick sand or something. Had to restart the console each time. Not to mention the fact that the game frequently lags and freezes, and 80% of the time your listening to dialogue. I enjoy the concept, but it needs A LOT of work.

I'm seriously considering buying a PS3. It will probably be a 40GB, as I'm pretty much through with the PS2/Xbox generation (though I still play Halo and Red Faction on my 360). But if Final Fantasy XIII doesn't go to 360, I'm will definitely get a PS3 the day it comes out.

No thought on it as a media center extender/pc replacement?

If that's what you intend on using it for, then it will certainly be adequate. I just recently acquired mine, so I haven't used it to its full potential yet.

Right now, I mainly use it to play games, listen to music, and as a back-up storage device.

I’m all for PS3 I’ve been Sony fan even before Microsoft been the game. Halo is the most overrated game in history. Yea it’s good but come on its really going to have nothing on GTA 4, I've been playing Grand Theft Auto since the first one on PS1 its going to be an absolute insult putting it on XBox 360.

Oh and btw for all you Xbox fan boys Bungi Studios left Microsoft and went to Sony so no more Halo or at least no more Halo for Xbox.

Actually, Bungie says its going to remain loyal to Xbox 360. (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31363)

But anyway, Halo is a great game with a great story. The second and third ones disappointed, but the series as a whole is one of the best I've ever played.

But it's just my opinion.

I also like the PS3, its just that $500 versus $400 for a console that had very few games on it didn't seem all that great to me. The 360 has Halo, Fable 2, Alan Wake, Mass Effect, BioShock, and plenty of other fun games. But, I think that the PS3 now is in my price range, I may drop $400 this January for another console, the same as I did last Jan. for my 360.

But here's what I'll probably buy when I do get it:

MotorStorm
Resistance: Fall of Man
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Heavenly Sword

The xbox community has always been focused on modding. Given that everyone has been hot for 360 modding lately, I would go with the 360

What some PS3 fanboys calling the PS3 more powerful, the 360 versions actually have the superior graphics and run smoother

IGN Ratings for The Orange Box (X360)

9.5 Presentation
The menus are slick and there's developer commentary for four of the five games. Only the hideous box art and some annoying load times keep this from perfection.

9.0 Graphics
Half-Life 2 was given a resolution bump, but little else for 360, but Ep. 2 is absolutely stunning. Best facial animations ever. The art style of Portal and Team Fortress 2 are unique.

9.0 Sound
Excellent voice acting, good music, and stellar sound effects combine for an audio feast for the ears.

9.5 Gameplay
Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes feature excellent level design and fun gameplay. Portal is inventive and TF2 is one of the most fun multiplayer experiences around.

10 Lasting Appeal
Playing through all three pieces of Half-Life 2 and Portal is at least 20 hours. Then add in the extra Portal challenges and TF2 and it's likely you will have The Orange Box in your 360 for a while.

IGN Ratings for The Orange Box (PS3)

7.0 Presentation
An otherwise super-stylized game suffers dramatically under technical issues and dreadful load times.

7.5 Graphics
These games look really nice. Too bad the framerate stutters when they’re trying to look their nicest.

9.0 Sound
Superb voice acting. Truly a work of art. The music, while used sparsely, is executed at just the right times and with enough style to put any badass to shame.

8.0 Gameplay
Orange Box is a blast, but beware: the framerate will interfere with your ability to play the game smoothly.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
Get past the technical issues and there’s enough content in this fantastic collection to last you a long, long time.
