ive owned something like 15 mp3 players including 2 ipods since about 2000. (yes, im a tech geek, bleeding edge, early adopter) what works best for you is really somewhat dependent on what you plan to use it for primarily i/e files, music, video etc. asuming its music, i think an important consideration is the style of user interface and the associated software on your PC. my personal opinion is that itunes is miles ahead of any other music organization software out there, and since only ipods utilize full integration with itunes, they seem to be the best choice. another thing to consider is warrantee service. in 2003 or so i bought a creative nomad zen. after about 3 months of use the headphone jack solder became disconnected with the circuit board, and i had no sound. creative would not warantee the unit, and was asking for 150 bucks to fix it. i ended up taking it apart and resoldering it myself. compare that with my experience with apple just last month. my 7 month old ipod fall from a height of 15 feet onto a metal bar and a visable dent was left on the back. it would no longer power up. i figured no way would they warantee it especially since it was only covered for 6 months. they replaced it for free. youll find other people that mave had bad experiences with apple service but i'm not one of them. so basically, i recommend ipod, with samsung as an alternative, especially their flash memory players which i think are fantastic.
