Everyone here knows I use and love Linux. It's not an OS, it's a religion! I am not backing down from that position. Linux will blow the doors off of any OS every day and four times on Sunday.
Having said that, if anyone is considering trying Linux STAY AWAY from OpenSuse!!! I've been using it for a few months, and it started heading downhill in a quick hurry. Among the more interesting problems:
1. all support for mp3 files is now gone
2. any page with flash takes up 100% cpu time
3. the cd burning program no longer works
4. firefox is slower than hell
5. actually, all programs are slower than hell
6. the mouse will sometimes randomly jump all over the screen
The problems are all caused by the kernel "optimizations" that Suse put into their distribution. Apparently the above are common problems that people start experiencing after some time after installing OpenSuse...
I just installed Kubuntu Linux and it's blazingly fast, and everything just works. Moral: stay away from OpenSuse!
I know there are some other Linux heads here, what distros do you all use?

Yeah dude, stay with Windows and reinstall every two weeks, reboot twice a day, keep your antivirus updated and PRAY you don't get infected, oh and don't visit any websites lest you get hit with tons of spyware.
Not to mention DLL hell, UPnP, Windows Genuine Advantage, ActiveX, etc etc ad nauseum... Yeah, fine moral there MC.
How about hopping on messenger and getting whipped at pool?

I haven't had a real problem since Win98. Maybe it is just me though.

Yukon, you've shown your typical ignorance. It's true that Linus Torvalds is from Finland, but he works for Open Source Development Labs, in the good ol' USA! Get a freakin clue.

I use Windows XP with Mozilla. I have had absolutely no problems. My virus protection automatically updates every few days. I'm not much of a serious computer geek. As long as I can do basic computer functions, I'm fine.

Hey Yukon, what kind of car do you drive? I consider myself patriotic, but that doesn't mean that a Ford is better than a Mercedes. Liking the prodcut of another nation does not mean you don't suport your own nation.
By the way, I use XP with either mozilla or Internet Explorer, and I have no problems. Fast as hell.

My appology, I have hanged the post:
Your rant does expose your lack of knowledge, your claim that I've shown ignoranance is insulting and offensive - I demand an appology !!!
The Linux suystem was invented by Torvalds, in Finland, and it is inferior to American products or do you think foreigners are better at SW than Americans?
i normally would not respond to your posts but in this instance i have to say that linux while created orginally by Torvalds has been modified by countless programmers all across the globe so at this point no one person created it. and that is the beauty in linux

Lately i have been using fedora core 5. I havent gotten it on the internet yet. all i have is a cointroller less dialup modem. it seems nice. It has its problems, but it works very fast and well. It does seem to use a little too much memory hough, and i dont know what services are ok to shut down.

gnome is only the default. a bad default. it can be set to use only kde. although the kde in it has some wierd optimizations and options that seem to only half work, like transsparencies.
i dont know if gentoo is that great. i have read about some other great ones. OpenSUSE is pure garbage. i tried it on a live cd. it was slow, useless feature bloated and the themes and schemes where horrible. My experience with slax has been good though. The other day someone suggested that i try ultima linux. It didnt look like a bad distro, but i have not heard of it before.

ubuntu seems to be the most popular, but it only uses gnome. i am sure that you could hack it to use kde though. from what i hear mandravia has the bes reputation.
i have used symphony os before, but it was slow and strange.when i was looking for a distro to use for my self, i chose fedora becuase it has a good community, good updates, installer, Filesystem and compatibility. plus lots of software options that dont really get in the way. the only problems i have so far are with speed and memory. i need to find ouy how to enable high mempry mode so that it can use all of my ram.

Mac computers are the best. If you disagree, that is a blasphemus comment, and I may take offence to it.

Your claim that I have shown ignorance is offensive, and blasphemoues. It falls slightly short of name-calling and I do appologize for that claim. However, I demand an appology.
Hehe... this is immature, but i find it comical that such an edumacated man, as yourself, (well at least you've told us enough that your edumacated) would make so many typo's...
