there are competant scientists on both sides of this issue, all of whom can make very intelligent conclusions based on their interpretations of data.

in todays world you can just jump on the internet and find "facts" to support anything you want to believe.

that pretty well sums up the entire discussion.

Oh, and stilljammin,

Humans have decreased emissions of greenhouse gases dramatically since the 1970s.

Let me guess, your a Kyoto Treaty liberal?

i generally don't like to do this, but could you please find something to support this claim?

I think they have risen naturally from what I have read.. but unfortunately for all the global warming nuts the increase is not a big %.

really?

one could say this rise is based on natural phenomenon, but when one looks at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Global_Carbon_Emission_by_Type.png

thats a tough conclusion to come to

i have no problem with anyone who looks at the facts and comes to the conclusion that it is "inconclusive",
but i do have a problem when people use misinformation to come to this conclusion

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone. It is not something to use as a reference. The second graph is a variant of the hockey stick graph. It was created by a couple guys who only used data consistent with thier beliefs on global warming. The original one is the called the GRL Graph. The temperature naturally fluxuates with the sun. Carbon dioxide levels change to meet the temperature fluxes.. In the 1500s the temperature was hotter than it is now. The 'proof' that is isn't is gathered by temperature monitoring stations in urban areas where the temperature is hotter, and always will be hotter, than the rest of the world. Carbon is also consumed by plants. The trees in today's time are larger than before. Might I also add that storms are more violent and frequent when the temperature is lower.

it is not in any way a variant of the "hockey stick". the hockey stick is a temperature graph. the graph you are referring to was created by the CDIAC division of the US department of energy (thats right, the bush administration and his Department of Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman) to track global fossil fuel emissions.

but dont take it from me:

http://cdiac.ornl.gov/trends/emis/glo.htm

are you willing to go with the bush administrations numbers or are they false as well?

if that won't do, how about you show me a graph you do trust?

maybe try any of these publications from the national academy of sciences:

http://newton.nap.edu/collections/global_warming/index.html

there are a handful of oil industry funded think tanks that have been producing all kinds of misinformation over the last decade, trying to place as much doubt as possible on this science. I don't blame anyone for being confused by it. it is complex as hell, and ultimately who we choose to believe is at some point going to be dependant on who we trust. I truly regret that al gore felt that it was imperative that he attach himself so closely to the issue. as soon as i heard about the movie, i realized that half the country would automatically turn away from the message. i'll just say this...i think it is just as foolish for those who believe in the message just because it was AL...as it is to discount it just because it's AL.

There has been talk of Global Cooling on this thread and this (http://www.glennbeck.com/2006news/newsweek-coolingworld.pdf) is the Newsweek article from 1975.

When the idiot left say that both Cooling and Warming trends reflect global warming, I start feel like the emperor in the Emperor's new clothes story, except I don't buy it.
