This is President Bush's handwriting in the bold black ink.
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Wednesday that Iraqi forces are capable of taking control of security in all of Iraq within 18 months, but still need more recruits, training and equipment.
By now, everyone of us here should realize that President Bush has wagered his Presidency on Iraq. We can all say what we want to believe about the events leading up to Operation Iraqi Freedom, but the only fact that we can all agree on is that we are there now. We cannot afford to lose this war. There is far too much at stake, more than any of us can imagine.
For those of us on college campuses, there is no doubt in my mind that Iraq resembles Vietnam in the halls of academia, and in the media as well. If we allow the media to control this war, we will lose, just like in Vietnam. I'm really growing tired of Hollywood liberals and people like CNN's Jack Cafferty and Wolf Blitzer telling me how they think Iraq is fairing, and how they believe the war should be conducted, and then on top of that, using the lowest journalistic standards to harm the President politically. In the past two years, we have seen the most misleading, selfish, and most false reporting ever that is completely working against our efforts against terrorism.
Examples include:
CBS: 'Memogate' scandal. Mary Mapes and Dan Rather wanted the story so badly, that they ignored the critics of the phony documents, and aired the false story with the sole purpose of derailing the President's campaign, eventually costing both of them their jobs.
TIME: Guantanamo Bay Quran-Toilet story. They wanted to demoralize our military and our operations, so they decided to act on questionable, unverifiable information to carry out their political agenda. What happened? Riots and deaths. People DIED because of their inaccurate information and political agenda.
USA TODAY: NSA Surveillance Program. This recently published idiocy entailed mostly untruthful, unverifiable information once again, aimed at destroying this administration. Lost cause. Americans support this program overwhelmingly.
Obviously these are only a few examples, but some of these misleading and untrue stories resulted in deaths. You read misleading front page headlines every day. Every journalist is politically driven. There are no unbiased reporters, because there are no unbiased people. When our Armed Forces have to combat the 4th Estate as well as terrorists, it makes their job 100 times harder.
During WWII, we crippled Germany by killing their civilians. The Allied Forces bombed at least one German city a day. But today, a group of brave men and women are being court martialed for killing 12 civilians whom they believed to be life threatening and terrorists?
Iraqi citizens are now free, and that is a fact. Afghani citizens are now free. That is a fact. I've said this 1,000 times before, but women can now vote, and run for office in both liberated countries. Little girls can now go to school, and people are enjoying freedoms that they could only dream of before.
I want to ask liberal female journalists, in fact, I ask any female this one question.
Do you like your job and your rights? Because if you do you better hope to God that we win. Because if we lose to a totalitarian ideology, you will lose that right to become whatever you want to become. You will be forced to cover up. Hell, you'll be dead before you could refuse.
Do you realize the positive implications that this will have on the region? We've seen the negative. You see them every day on television because that is what they want you to see. Just think of the impact that Iraq and Afghanistan has had and will continue to have on the Middle East. They are the first functioning democracies in a region which has been plagued by fascism and oppression. Iraqis are showing other Middle Eastern peoples that it is possible to become free and enjoy the basic human rights that everyone deserves.
I know many of you would debate me on this, but I believe that President Bush is a strong leader, who holds deep convictions and makes policy based on those decisions. That is what I look for in a President, and that is why I stand by him. Now, don't get me wrong, his decisions may stray away from his base from time to time, but he makes his decisions on what he believes is in the best interest of the nation, not what you believe is in the best interest of this nation. I only wish that all of us where half as optimistic about our nation as our President is. I believe in fate, and our President has met his moment in our nation's history. True leaders look far beyond the present, and they look into the future implications of their decisions. Yes, the combat operations in Iraq have costed us billions of dollars, but we sacrificed not only for our safety, but for the advance of human liberty, something that our founders held deep in their souls.
Optimism and determination are the keys to unlocking a positive future for the United States of America as well as Iraq. We are currently in Iraq fighting a war against those who want to obliterate everything that our founders created 230 years ago. I want to defend that, and I want to support those defending our freedoms that we enjoy.
Do you want to bring our troops home? Then support Iraqis, and let them know that we stand with them, together, fighting for the same cause and hoping for the same outcome. I want victory, and like the President, I want nothing else. Tomorrow night, Thursday, May 25th, President Bush will hold a press conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair at 7:30 p.m. ET. I encourage you all to watch it. I recommend FOX News, only because I really like Brit Hume and his right leaning panel.
I'll end on this note, I only pray that our next Commander-In-Chief is as half as bold as our President. God Bless.
