Thousands of immigration advocates marched through downtown Los Angeles in one of the largest demonstrations for any cause in recent U.S. history.

More than 500,000 protesters _ demanding that Congress abandon attempts to make illegal immigration a felony and to build more walls along the border _ surprised police who estimated the crowd size using aerial photographs and other techniques, police Cmdr. Louis Gray Jr. said.

The biggest demonstration in LA history. Are we being over run? I would have to say YES!!!!

Not only were there illegal immigrant marches in LA, but all across the homeland. The artcle goes on to say:


In Denver, more than 50,000 people protested downtown Saturday, according to police who had expected only a few thousand. Phoenix was similarly surprised Friday when an estimated 20,000 people gathered for one of the biggest demonstrations in city history, and more than 10,000 marched in Milwaukee on Thursday.

I also heard reports of Chicago experiencing numbers in the 100,000+ marching in support of illegal immigrants.

I think we have a very big problem on our hands here.

So what happens now? These marches demonstrate what kind of power and force of illegal immigration exhists in this country. These demonstrations are bigger than the Vietnam marches! Bigger than Rodney King!! Nothing of this magnitude has been seen. And its over the issue of immigration.

How is this problem going to be solved?

I'd protest too if I were in danger of loosing my "special status" that I get for illegally breaking into the USA, I guess. I'd fight too to keep my free housing, food and healthcare, I guess. I'd march in the streets too and demand that my children be educated (in spanish because I don't feel like learning english) free of charge, I guess. I too would wave signs (in spanish) and hold up my Mexican flag and demand that everyone understand what I am saying, I guess. I'd have the arrogance to demand that I pay a greatly discounted tuition to attend college simply because I am here illegally, I guess. It was Mexico I saw marching in protest in LA. It wasn't illegal immigrant advocates or "criminal rights advocates" as Sinn Fein called them, it was a freakin FOREIGN COUNTRY!!!!!! IT WAS MEXICO MARCHING!!!!!!!!!

OV, I think the point to this is that the 500k people ARE protesting for the complete legalization of every illegal alien. That is UN-American, so therefore place the name of whatever country the predominate peoples come from in the blank...which is Mexico.

But, DRIE is absolutely correct...and most of us don't even see it happening...we are being taken over. Just like the arab-muslims did (and are doing) in France. France completely ignored what was happening and now they are paying the piper.

In some instances yes they do... I did not say i agree with it...If an illegal immigrants is charged with a crime he has a right to a fair trial etc. It does not protect them from being deported but they do get some benefits from it

The article said they were "demanding that Congress abandon attempts to make illegal immigration a felony and to build more walls along the border", NOT that they were for the legalization of every illegal alien.

It is absolutely ridiculous to point to these protests as evidence that we are being "invaded" by illegal Mexicans. This is not to say we aren't, but to use this as proof is ridiculous.

Why?

1. You have no demographics. You only have a handful of pictures (from a media which you people claim are biased) and are basing THE ENTIRE PROTEST DEMOGRAPHIC on, what, half a dozen pictures?

2. Even IF the entire protest consisted of Hispanics, you have NO PROOF that ANY of these people are illegal aliens. This country takes in more legal Hispanic immigrants every year than any other minority, hence it is just as likely that they are all LEGAL immigrants.
And, whether you like it or not, they are just as much "American" as any white person.

Therefore, these protests are just as likely being held by Americans as Mexicans and no more proof that we are being invaded by illegal mexicans than if 500,000 blondes protesting is evidence that we are being invaded by illegal Germans.
Why do you assume off hand that the 500,000 are all, a majority, or even significantly consisted of illegals?

If they are, I'll give you a hint as to how to find them: their the ones who aren't yelling in english. Instead they obviously know enough about American race relations to know old timey slogans and can obviously afford to miss work, suggesting to me that they are modestly well off...evidence seems to suggest that they're mostly legal.

Does this mean that illegal immigration is not a problem? No.
Does it mean that we aren't getting droves of aliens in from Mexico? No.

All I'm saying is that using these protests as evidence makes no sense, and, in a way, paints you as stereotypical and racist, as you immediately assume that all hispanics are illegal, and if you presented this as evidence to your liberal friends, you wouldn't be making your case.

Also, the law might not being garnering AS MUCH attention if people would learn from history and abandon this archaic and quite frankly idiotic idea of walls along your border.

Walls have NEVER worked, people! Either they're circumnavigated (Israel, China, Britain), or just blatantly broken through (Troy, Constantinople, China)

I once tried to tell everyone on this site, how wherever I go around here, I feel like I'm in Mexico. They don't know our language and speak to each other in their language.

Along time ago, I read that Americans should learn Spanish, because in ten years we won't be able to communicate with all the Latinos living among us and with more coming in. It seemed strange to me at the time, I thought that it was in reverse. As a matter of fact, that article or magazine said, that learing Spanish will be a must if you want to get a good job.

So many knew that we were going to have a problem, and nobody did anything about it. Learn English, it's good for us, we'll know another language, it said in the article.

Many things, including directions on grocery items, have directions for both, English and Spanish. We've made it so easy for them, why should they learn English?

There was a time when most all immigrants learned English in night school.

One of the things that got to me about this march, was that they were waving Mexican flags. They want to immigrate here, then all should be waving American flags and learn English.

I don't think this is fair for the many who are waiting in line to immigrate to America legally.

OV...just for you...I am going to go to down town Culpeper, where there are about 100 illegals lined up every morning and carry a protest sign expressing opposition against illegal aliens and the American's hiring them.
