Linux freaking sux compared to Windows. Windows is the king of all OS'es. I did a report on this back in my Master's degree days.
One of my hypothesis questions would be why a hacker (or group of) would attack or create a virus that would attack only 3% of the worlds computers (that would be UNIX-based computers)? Wouldn't it be more sensible to create a virus or to find a vulnerability to expose 95% of the worlds computers? (the other 2% are "other than UNIX" systems..like Apple).
Plus, Windows has far more features than ANY other OS in the business, so it is only logical that there would be more vulnerabilities. Look at Sun Solaris version 10...it looks like something out of the days of Windows 3.1 (a little over a decade ago.) And another also...most real hackers are left over UNIX worshipers that have it in for Bill Gates and company for stealing their thunder. The rest are stupid script-kiddies that don't know their head from their ass to begin with.
WINDOWS RULES!

the reason linux is so well loved is because it is easily modified to suit individual needs if you use a gui on linux its just as good as MS windows plus you get the added ability to modify the OS's programming much more than you can with MS
Oh Oh - here come the OS wars.
I don't want a war about which is better. I'm simply pointing out that the beloved Linux is not the perfect OS it's supports sometimes seem to claim it is.

No OS is perfect. I use linux, and I love it. I prefer it over Windows, but that's my preference. Some prefer Windows, and that's their preference, and that's ok. Just like it's ok to be a liberal
Seriously, though, that report is flawed. They say that "Linux" has more vulnerabilities, which is false. They included Mac OS, and Unix in that report. Linux, when termed properly, is GNU/Linux. The GNU stands for Gnu's Not Unix. And to say that Mac OS is Linux is just foolish.
Also, CERT (the same people who issued that report) said a couple of years ago that using Windows and Internet Explorer is a national security risk and should be avoided by government agencies, banks, etc.

No, CERT never came out against Windows as a Nat'l security risk. Dude, I do Network Security for a living for the governement (teach on the side too) and I am always looking at the US CERT database.
CERT and DISA are the main catalysts for the gov'ts baselines, etc. And since the induction of Active Directory in Win2k, Windows has always got A+ ratings.
Also, thinking this study is inaccurate because Mac OS X is under the UNIX umbrella is ridiculous. Mac OS X only accounts for 2% of the WORLDS computer operating systems. The report lumped them together because UNIX based and Mac OS X account for 5 total percent, while Windows accounts for 95% of the total OS'es used in the entire world.
