Well Christmas is almost upon us and I was out doing some last minute Christmas shopping. Since I thought that most of the cashiers at all the stores would say "Happy Holidays", I thought I'd give them a little comeback that my aunt and uncle both use when clerks say "Happy Holidays". It goes something like this:
Clerk: "Happy Holidays!"
Uncle: "Oh, which holiday were you referring to?"
Clerk: "Oh, uh, Christmas I guess."
Uncle: "Oh, alright then, Merry Christmas!"
So I was at JC Penny just waiting to use this comeback when the cashier says "Merry Christmas!". I was overjoyed and said back to her, "Thank you for not being all PC. Merry Christmas to you too."
We were at Krispy Kreme this morning and the General Manager was taking our order and said, "Merry Christmas!"
We were also at Walmart today. This may shock some of you, but the cashier at Walmart also said to me, "Merry Christmas."
SCORE 3 FOR MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I think part of the return to saying Merry Christmas can be attributed to Bill O'Reilly. He's really been hammering the truth out of the hyper-secularists, getting them to tell the public that they want to change what people say to fit their own beliefs. Walmart in particular was a major milestone in going back to Merry Christmas. From the beginning of the season, Walmart was very violently opposed to saying Merry Christmas. But then Bill hammered them on the fact that in stores with a large hispanic patronage, cashiers are allowed to say "Feliz Navidad", which translates DIRECTLY to Merry Christmas. Bill O'Reilly exposed Walmart's hypocracy that they can say Merry Christmas in Spanish but not in English and Walmart then announced that it was OK for employees to say Merry Christmas but they still didn't change their ads.
