transit strikes are super-shitty. we just had one here in philadelphia that lasted a week, though unlike new york, the workers here were not violating state law by walking off the job. it was a freakin' nightmare and i spent twice the money and three times the time i usually take just to get to my job (i don't drive.) and in the end, the workers only got a fraction of what they were asking for PLUS they had to suffer all that $$$ in lost wages.
i'm all for unions if people want them, though i'd never join one myself. performing well and being professional is all the job security i need. and although they've degenerated into a sea of corruption and misuse, at it's origin, organized labor was a neccessary step to provide proper working conditions and manegerial accountability for employees (can you IMAGINE what it was like working in heavy industry in the early 1900s? pretty dismal.) nowadays.... well, they tend to abuse their power from time to time, don't they?
my thoughts on the strike are this: GO BACK TO WORK! unions and management can't expect the public to simply "eat shit" while they hash out their petty differences. i'm all for the workers getting what they deserve (IF they deserve it - i don't know all the specifics,) but NOT at the expense of the public that keeps them in business. GO BACK TO WORK!

fire them and make the MEMBERS pay for all the money lost due to this BS strike. better yet turn the commuters loose on them...

I think they resolved it today. It looked for a bit like the leaders might end up going to the clink. I think that made them sit up and take notice. Whoever in the Union said it would be a good idea to strike needs to be fired!

i think a more appropriate way of putting that would be: "whoever in the union AUTHORIZED the strike should go to JAIL." at least for a couple months to let them think about the crime they've committed and to set an example to anyone else who thinks about pulling this B.S.

I say fine all the union leaders involved, and then promote all the transit workers to 'passenger' for taking an illegal strike.
