I guess this is the right place to post this... Anyway, I have noticed lately that more and more threads are devolving into meaningless flamewars. It seems to be a small group of people who usually start it... I would submit the following:
1. Is this how people of similar political persuasion discuss things?
2. What do the libs who visit this site think when they read a pointless flamewar, between people who should be unified?
3. IHL/Wadi: Is there anything that can be done?
I don't know, I am just getting kind of frustrated...
Any time you have people with strong opinions, you'll have that sort of thing. There are a couple of ways to handle it.
You can just boot anyone that acts up.
You can not allow opposing viewpoints, much like the liberal sites do.
You can ignore it and hope it will go away.
You can close down the site.
You can try to control it and realize it's part of the debate process.
If you read the rules, it clearly states that posts that don't add to the debate should not be made. We can't read every post that comes through here but we try to keep things under control as much as possible. You can send us a private message if you see any blatent abuses that we might miss.
I do like to allow opposing viewpoints and I don't like to boot people, unless they are way over the line. Usually a temporary ban will send a message to the offender and others so I guess it's just part of the way it is.
But, I agree and I get frustrated too for people wasting my time and bandwidth on worthless posts. Looks like it might be time to start booting and deleting a bit more. You ready Wadi?

I feel that the libs here are wrong and sometimes over the line, but it adds to the "wanting to come back" and see what was said. If you had a bunch of people on this forum that all they did was agree with one another, that would be boring and many would leave. Tension isn't a bad thing when it comes to peoples views.

True Dag, but it can get out of hand. That's where it becomes ridiculous.

When I go into the liberal sites, all they do is say; 'I agree with you "sweet cakes," (their names are funny, too) or say to another that they should add their post to a newspaper. :icon_roll It was a post about their every day repertoire with plenty of outrageous remarks about Bush or conservatives. They even put up pictures of an audience clapping for the ones who posts the meanest.
I love this site because we have liberals, commies or anarchists, I enjoy seeing WAA take them on. I don't worry about them, they usually come and have their say, then leave. The liberals who stay, usually are not bad, and at least we get to see their side and debate. I've seen Wadi stop it if it gets out of hand.
One of the funniest was when the "chia pet," who was banned from this site, IHL tracked him down to his new site by the name of Kevin. IHL replied to one of Kevins cheerleaders with the name of "honey bun," seeing IHL calling her "honey bun," was so hillarious, I still laugh when I think about it.
You learn more, you see how others think and believe.

IHL, I agree completely with your philosophy of opposing viewpoints, and not booting people for disagreeing. It makes for a great debate and interesting community.
My frustration appears when a thread devolves into conservative members of our community getting into a name-calling match. It's not good, as I am sure you will agree. Unfortunately, I have noticed it more lately.
Having said that, this is still the best political site around. There is more intelligence in one post here than happens in a week at the DU. Thanks for your quick reply, and also for creating this great community that we all love so much! :icon_cool

Everyone loves a great debate and the exchange of thoughts and ideas. What people DON'T like is the flaming and name calling. I would agree that's what some threads resort to. IHL, yes I'm ready.
EVERYONE BETTER GET READY. IF YOUR POST ISN'T CONSTRUCTIVE TO THE DEBATE, MORE THAN LIKELY ITS GOING TO GET DELETED. IF YOU INSIST ON NAME CALLING, IT'LL BE EDITED AT FIRST. IF IT CONTINUES THEN I WILL START DELETING THE WHOLE POST, REGARDLESS OF WHAT ELSE YOU HAD TO SAY.
Come on folks, we're better than this.

iv'e, to the best of my knowledge, never "profaned" anyone here but we are all prob. guilty, to a degree of posting inflamotory remarks. i suggest when you recognize your own part in it, try to make ammends in the forum but if that doesn't work send a private message saying "sorry for my part". if you get no response at least you tried.
i really like some of the "one liners" i've read here and i know i'm not the only one. perhaps if you put a "cheeser" by the remark like our resident icon thief  no names, but the initials are "master chief"? that will take the edge off.
i mentioned the incidents of this "intolerance of like minds" indirectly, shortly after i started posting here but i read "the rules" and introductory posts so i wasn't all that concerned. for those of you who have been here since dinosaurs wre alive and "Oi-Vei" was young  you don't really know who is likely to stick around, mature and "add" the to discussions are you.
i did like one post from hb when he posted a response that said something like "if you make me mad i'll argue with you on the internet". funnnnnnyyy. please don't go overboard with the deleting and editing. we are a beacon to the "idiots" who say "agree with me, hate the right wingers or i'll call you names, make fun of your spelling and punctuation and ban you". our appologies are sincere and adult like here. every adult knows only extremely insecure people need to win every argument or debate. :icon_roll only "lefty libs" should and do feed in a frenzy of lies exagerations and immaturity.

Greetings,
Perhaps a special flamewar thread is in order to take these various matters to. I must admit that there would be some shameful entertainment to be had therein - with a box of popcorn and a soda.
