I would have thought for sure that there would be a thread on this by now, but since there isn't (that I saw) I will happily start it...
What did you all think of Bush's speech on Monday regarding immigration? Personally, I thought it was a bunch of B.S. I know that will piss off a lot of people here, but I gotta call it like I see it. First of all, he said that we need Mexican immigrants to "do the jobs that American will not do." That's just an idiotic thing to say. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO), who are all very proud of here in Colorado, said it best: "Name off all of those jobs, and you will soon find yourself saying 'I did that once' or 'I know someone who did that'." I challenge anyone here to name ONE job, in the U.S.A., that legal U.S. citizens will not do.
Also, he said that we would find all of the illegal immigrants and grant them work visas so that they could work for a specific amount of time then return home. 1: Is anyone naive enough, honestly, to think that they will voluntarily return home upon the expiration of their work visas? Hell no, that only means that they get to make minimum wage for the time that the visa in valid! 2: Why should we reward these people for breaking the law? Shouldn't we round 'em up and ship 'em out? Maybe that's just too common sense.
Not to mention the fact that so many Americans are suffering hardship because of these lawbreakers. A friend of mine owns a framing company. His house is in foreclosure, and he is about to lose 3 of his 5 work trucks. There is only one reason for it. He charges $8.00 per square foot, and makes a very meager profit on it. He only hires legal labor, and plays by the rules. He is constantly being undercut by companies that use illegal labor and charge sometimes as low as $3.50 per square foot. It's crap!
On top of all of that, we have caught at least four Al Qaeda members either living in Mexico near the border, or crossing the border into this country. When in the hell is Bush going to get serious about the security of our people? We need a wall like Israel built, liberals be damned. I am so sick of this hypocrisy.
Tom Tancredo said it best this afternoon: "Bush had better pay attention to his base, and it's eroding quickly. This doesn't help it one durn bit!"
What are everyone else's opinions?
