I think that we all must know someone (if not ourself) who served. I think it would be a good Idea to tell their story here.
My grandfather served during the Korean war as a firearms instructor. He hated being held back to train, but he did it. He was stationed in Pendelton, and was discharged in 1954. He died about a year ago of cancer.

I was in the US Army as a military police officer from '94 - '99.
My wife was also a MP in the Army from '92 - '00.
My dad was drafted in '69 (I think that was the year) and went into the Marine Corps, he got out in '75.
My grand-daddy was in the Navy (dunno the years).
Aunt and Uncle were in the Air Force (again, dunno the years).
None of died in wars, so we are thankful of that. My hearts go out to the ones who have lost loved ones though.

He left home in January of 2002, with his father's pride and his sadness; with his mother's blessings and and her pleas; with the kisses of his wife and young son, and with their tears as well.
He served gallantly in Afghanistan and died from wound complications; a noble hero, a proud father, loving husband, and devoted son.
Requiescat in pace. Rest in peace.
Ave atque Vale. Hail and farewell.

My Grandfather served during WWII as a Chief Petty Officer in the Pacific fleet. He died in 1998, and sadly I never really got to know him that well, mostly because we didn't live close to my grandparents.

One grandfather in WWII. Never got to know him, he died in 1976. My other grandfather served in the Korean War. He's still alive today and I've learned a lot about life from him. He helped make me who I am today, a good American citizen, suuporter of the troops, and the ability to think for myself.

My grandfather served in the Navy during World War 2. He lied about his age to get in and I am sure had a million stories( I never had the privlege to know him). When he came back stateside he took a job in the Pittsburgh steel mills where little by little the toxic fumes poisoned his blood. He died in October of 1986 due to an astronomic amount of lead coarsing through his blood stream. His 3 sons (my Uncles) served in the military as well.
My uncle Ed and Ray both joined the army together and returned to civilian life once their time was up.
My Uncle jacked remained in the army for 25+ years and served as an MP in Germany during the first Gulf War. Not sure why he was there but he said it had something to do with making sure there was no civil unrest and something about people trying to blowup mailboxes. I have no clue thats all he would really say.
My Uncle Bob served in Vietnam and did 2 tours. He has a purple heart but that is all I really know because he just will not talk about anything from that time period. It has given him alot of mental problems (not like he is a slobbering nut job, he just has bad dreams and sometimes is gloomy). He has just been recently going to the Vets hospital to kind of get the feeling that he is not alone with these problems. Nicest guy in the world would give you the shirt off your back, but you can tell he is a bit of a tortured soul just beneath the funny light hearted exterior.
Thats about it I suppose. Happy Veterans day to them and all those out there that do not have a family support unit and those who do.
"You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey, I'm true down to the core
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor 'cause freedom don't come free"

"I'm an American Soldier, an American... Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand..."
WJ-I love that song. It actually makes me cry. (I am a female, what do you expect? =) )
I appreciate and support our troops and veterans whole heartedly and I am glad that all of you and your relatives are such great people.
And to think that there are people who hate these guys and do not support them. It makes me sick.

My Uncle served for many years in the Navy. He eventually retired from the Navy as well, he was a career man all the way. One of the nicest people you could ever meet. My 2 Cousins are serving in the Guard in Iraq, Also, good people, I really respect them and all of you for serving. I cant wait till they and everyone else serving are home again.

My dad served in the Army for 27 years, he served in Operaton Desert Storm and retired about 8 years ago. He reached his peak rank as Command Sergeant Major.
My mom served for five years I believe, I think she was a Sergeant.
My three grandfathers (My mom's dad, my dad's dad, and my dad's stepdad [in order]) served in the Army for I don't know how long, my dad's dad served as a Navy pilot in WW2, and his stepdad served in the Marine Corps.
When I get out of highschool, I would like to attend a four-year college, then go in the Marine Corps as a 2nd Lt.

Your uncle died in world war one, you mean? If he was gassed, it would have been ww1. Just clearing things up for me. . .

He could have died from mustard gas in WW2 if he was in Italy, in 1943. A bombing led to the accidental exposure of mustard gas killing many civillians and around 400 or so troops.

Bullsh*t. Prove it.
Nothing more than hearsay, in that I heard him say it during a radio interview. He said that he supports the troops and that our action in Afghanistan was necessary (although he hated that George Bush Jr. didn't finish the job) but that the war in Iraq was a sham.

And Osama Bin Ladin still walks around as a free man. We didn't go into Afghanistan to free the people, we went in to get Osama Bin Ladin, therefore the job isn't done.
I'm sure you can contradict what I said all day long about Toby Keith. Like I said, it's hearsay. I remember that his point was very long and had a lot of qualifications.
George Bush Jr. is doing a good job in Iraq, that can't be disputed. The people are free and in better shape than they could ever hope to be, but that's not why we went.
Does the ends justify the means?

Are you always this ignorant Count, or are you making a special effort today.
As I recall, Bush told the Taliban to give OBL up, they told Bush to go ==== himself, Bush told them to hand him over or their days are numbered, they didn't and now their days are over.
Your telling me that we went in there for OBL only?

UH... I'd stop while you're ahead. IHL censored the word after a lib visited this site (or maybe it was an email) and constantly threw the words around. Pissed about the lib insulting mental-challenged people, he blocked the word. There, now you know why. We've had a discussion similiar to this on another thread... It was also that thread where GRC was banned.

I put in four years in the Air Force, including a 1 yr. Saudi deployment. My service wasn't anything to write home about, though.
My grandfather was in the Marines, for most of WW2. He was one of the Marines that pried Iwo Jima from the Japanese. He lost three fingers and most of his hearing in the war. I make sure I shake his hand and thank him for his service whenever I see him. I truly admire him, because he NEVER comments about his injuries. He never let that slow him down at all. When I do shake his hand, he still has one hell of a grip with his thumb and index finger.
Also, he likes to tell the story of how he met my grandmother. To make a (sometimes very) long story short: When he was in the service, he was stationed at "some bastard of a hellhole island in the Pacific" as he likes to put it. She was a cadet nurse, and it was love at first sight. They were married as soon as they were both discharged after the war, and the rest is history.

Can't you ever let people have a discussion without throwing some controversy into the mix? Why don't you get a life.

Really? The guy who voted for George Bush (re-election)? And the guy who had a fight with the Dixie Chicks over their comments on Bush and his song? Doesn't sound like the guy who'd be against the war. Of course he is a Democrat, but then again, considers himself a Conservative as well.
