There was this guy one day who read an advertisement that there was this particular type of golden telephone (the type you would put .35 in on the street) that could be used to call God, but fees would vary depending on location. He thought to himself, “What a great idea! I always wanted to ask God some questions.” So he went out searching for one of these golden telephones.
The first one he found was in New York City. He ran up to it, all excited, but only to find the toll charge was 1 million dollars! He couldn’t believe the outrageous price these people have tried to put on this device to make a profit. So he went searching another city, this time he found one in Chicago, but saw the price at 1.5 million dollars. He was astonished! He heard rumor of one in San Francisco, so he departed only to find the golden phone there to have a toll of $10 million dollars!
He was at his line, he couldn’t afford that, so he flew back home in disappointment. About a week later, he was walking around this small Southern town looking for antiques. And low and behold, there stood one of the golden telephones outside this general store. He felt excitement at first, but then remembered the high toll charges and started to get disappointed again. But he walked up to it anyway and the toll charge read “FREE”. He couldn’t believe it! He ran inside to the store owner to inquire about if the price was real; citing the high prices in the other cities. The store owner simply stated, “Son, this is the South…talking to God is a local call.”
