It seems once she was caught (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/9/15/123648.shtml) dropping the ball she decided to come clean and say it was her fault for not sending in the military and that President Bush is a friend and partner. I wonder if the mayor will follow suit even though he has not been caught in his lies.

Its sad she didn't have the courage to take responsibility from the get go and instead chose to blame Bush. No wonder he was pissed at her. Funny how a camera manages to turn fingers back to where they should be facing. HEY LIBERALS, I suppose you're still gonna blame Bush though huh? Oh yeah, and you think conservatives are the problem in this country.
Now we'll see if pictures of parked buses are enough to help Nagin grow a pair.

Not a chance Wadi. I saw Nagin yesterday on Larry King and when King asked, "What went wrong", Nagin's reply was that what went wrong was that the storm hit New Orleans. Yep, that's about all we'll get from the wonderful Mayor Nagin.
I have a question though. The New Orleans mayor has been interviewed many times where the host points to the picture of the school buses and asks why they were not used for evacuation. Mayor Nagin's standard response has been something like "you can hardly get a city worker to come to work in good weather...so..." Excuses. I have heard no one though continue on with the question and ask if Nagin even bothered to try and call anyone in to drive the buses. Does anyone know if this question has been asked and if so what Nagin's response was? Right now it looks as though he did not even bother to try and get drivers, CHOOSING to leave behind the people he claims to care so much about.

He said he wanted greyhound buses at one point. I assume its because he'd rather have his citizens comfortable than alive. IMHO i think he realizes he screwed up so he is just passing the blame on the bus drivers and anyone else. Buses were there if the GOV had mobilzed her national guard im sure they could have driven the buses and at least gotten alot of the older and medically ill patients to a somewhat safer place. Many would have still been left behind but at least there would have been less there to contend with the weather and resulting lawlessness

By law not just anyone can drive buses, it requires a special license. During an emergency John Q. (if they had keys) could jump in the bus and drive, but for the mayor to condone their usage without qualified drivers places the local government (and him personally) at legal risk which means having bus drivers on call during an emergency should be part of the city's emergency plan. My guess, when the mayor called for a mandatory evacuation, all the bus drivers left town too. Bad planning.

Im sure the National gaurd had some Motor Transportation units that would be licsensed and qualified to drive a bus... point is the mayor had an "it cant be done" attitude and jsut accepted failure before the fact

If they're going to operate the schoolbus as a school bus. Otherwise, assuming the bus is less than 26000 lbs GVWR then anyone can drive it on a normal license.
Over that requires a CDL (Commercial Drivers License)

Over that requires a CDL (Commercial Drivers License)But to be used in transporting people you can bet your backside if anything happened there would be a major law suit because the driver wasn't properly trained etc. Liberals live by Murphy's law and hold conservatives responsible. Nevertheless, I agree the buses should have been used. Maybe next time.

You really have to look at who Nagin is and who lives in Orleans Parish. That is your answer right there! What do you expect?

The mayor will never take responsibility for his actions. Democrats know nothing of accountability. If he gets cought on camera though we will see his whole demeanor change jsut like the GOV. They mayor can still hide behind the political sh**storm and point fingers. He was responsible for the evacuation and the inital response to the storm he failed totally. He saved himself and didnt look back. When he was safe he threw up his "it cant be done" mentality and sat waiting for the problem to fix itself. That is the major downfall of liberal they become so dependent and have no idea what self-reliance is all about. Sort of rambled sorry long night lots of homework

Did any of you read/watch the interview with the young kid who took charge with a school buss? This kid, coming from a poor neighborhood, See's the damages and notices that no one there is doing anything so he finds a school buss and steals it. He drives around his neighborhood in 3 feet of water -picking up friends and neighbors and who ever else he can find/fit in. Once the buss was full they meandered out somehow and he drove all the way to Huston. He had heard on the radio that was where they were thinking of evacuating people to at that time. Got there, parked the buss and that was that. Smart kid, too bad others were stealing TVs and not buses to help.

Well that goes to show you that sometimes kids are smarter than adults and they dont let politics get in the way. That kid should of been congragulated.
