Like most Americans, I cannot take much more of the coverage of hurricane blame and pointless finger pointing. So, I am starting this thread so that everyone can share any ideas they have to avoid future whining.

Here are two of my own ideas:

1. Liberals immediatly cried a connection between race, poverty and deployment of first responders. They screamed that it was the poor black neighborhoods in New Orleans that were at the bottom of the rescue list. They whined that these people were left behind to die and completly ignored the fact that most of them could have left on their own when the warning came. Then when violence broke out, the liberals also cried foul for the lack of security. So, the only conclusion that a reasonable person can come to is that liberals fully believe that if you are poor and black in America, you are virtually helpless. Fine.

I would like to see a plan implemented in all major American cities that would immediatly deploy first responders to all neighborhoods where poor black Americans live, in the event of a city wide disaster. For security purposes these rescue workers will all need to be armed. Remember, it was the liberals that blamed Bush for the looting, so we'll have none of that in the future. First responders will need to gather, evacuate, transport and care for all of these folks because remember, the liberals have told us that they cannot do anything for themsleves. Responders will also need to gather the identifications, medications, and other needed items because remember, liberals have told us that the citizens of the poor black community could not carry out their bottles of pills with them.

Now here's the catch:
This plan is not kept secret. In the interest of safety for all citizens, everyone needs to be told that they will be on their own in the immediate aftermath of a city wide disaster if they are not part of the poor, helpless (remember that liberals have told us so), and black community. Citizens who are not part of that community will need to store their own food, water, and supplies, as well as transport themselves out of the area if necessary. They will also need to carry their own ID's and medications with them. They will be on their own until all of the helpless citizens are taken care of.

Works for me. I'm tired of the griping. If we have a catastrophic earthquake here in my area I'll just deal with it. I don't want any rescue workers coming to my house, because I am capable of storing water, food and supplies. I am also capable of getting in the car and driving fast and far away if need be. So DON'T COME HERE! I won't be sitting around waiting for someone to rescue me. I'll save myself and carry my own little bottle of medicine thankyou very much.

Will that help end the bitching liberals? Will it? No, probably not. Put such a plan in place and we'd see liberals again cry RACISM! FOUL! You're unfairly portraying the poor black citizens as helpless! Remember though, it's the liberals that are telling us now that the poor people in New Orleans were helpless.

Still, I would like to see this plan in place. I would like for all of the Sean Penn's, Mikie Moore's, Celine Dione's of the world spread the good news that we have learned from this disaster in the south. We have learned that if you are an Ameican who is poor and black and therefore helpless (remember that liberals have told us so) we need to immediatly send armed first responders into your neighborhood to bodily remove you and take you to a safe place because you are not capable (according to liberals) of doing this for yourself.

2. Now what? We have tens of thousands of homeless people who are used to being taken care of by the government. With these people now being segmented and spread across the country into various cities, would'nt this be a good time to try and break the welfare cycle for at least some of these folks?

In agricultural communities all across this country, growers are employing illegals to work the farms. They often pay these people less than minimum wage but most do provide housing. Housing? Jobs? Don't we have a whole lot of American citizens that are in need of housing and jobs? What if we send all of the illegals back to their home countries and the people who are now homeless from the hurricane were given the housing and jobs? The farmers could be given some sort of incentive to do this and the government could subsidise the wages to bring it up to the legal minimum. Since work is usually done in the early Am hours, those who choose to work and earn their way can be rewarded in the evenings with job skill training. Anyone can be taught to drive a forklift or work in construction etc and this would provide marketable skills later on. The children can go to school and mentoring programs can be put in place to inspire young minds to go on to higher education and a better future. Even with the extra government intervention it will cost less in the long run than it would cost to simply warehouse non-working people indefinitly. And maybe, just maybe, the cycle of welfare and government dependance would end for some. It seems to me that something like this would be the kindest thing we could do, rather than just letting these people just continue on the path of poverty and self destruction.

Don't tell me, let me guess, this will be unacceptable. Jesse Jackson will become unglued and scream that Topiary Lady is trying to turn poor black citizens into cotton pickers. God forbid we should take this opportunity to give people a hand up instead of a hand out. I don't know. If it were me, I'd take the job on the farm and job training rather than go back and live in a filthy public housing project with no hope of anything better. That's just me though. I'd like to see Katrina's destructive path lead at least some to a productive future.
