I cant go, but i sure as shit am hitting my local red cross station to volunteer this weekend (school the other days) and possibly give blood if i can see that it gets there (or do it anyway, cause if they use me, they might be able to send more down there).

I wouldn't go simply because I would prove to be more of a liability than an asset. Catchers knees do play havoc. So I'm forced to leave the rescue work to you young bucks.

My friend's boyfriend is going to quit his job after his next paycheck, sell all he owns, and go down to New Orleans to help people with the money he will earn. I thought that is pretty noble of him. The best I can do right know is pray to God for blessings on New Orleans.

Quit his job, sell everything he has, use that to help others, then end up on the receiving end just like those he wanted to help. Nope, doesn't work. He can sell things and donate the money, but he better keep the job. We don't need one more mouth to feed or body to worry about. Heck, he can even manage his money better and send more than what he gets from selling his possessions. I'm all for skipping the movies or whatever to send all you can.

Are you going?
Even though its a 25 to 30 minute drive from where I live I am not going because they simply wont allow me, I would like to help out I feel like im doing nothing sitting around.

Do gooders who haven't been trained get in trouble, that causes extra work for already overworked relief personnel.

I'm not even old enough too drive, I'd never be able to aid them personally. Even if I was old enough to go, I'm still too young, while it's tragic, I need focus on my own life before I can go saving lives. It would be different if I was in the military.

I'd just be in the way. Besides being a somewhat fit warm body that can lift/pull/push I don't have any disaster relief training and feel i would be in the way.
I'll do what I can with some money for the red cross, thats about it.

OUr local Red Cross offered training yesterday for the refugees hitting Dallas. I wasn't able to make the training but I am going to the Arena to help out where I can. My TV station is having a drive to raise money and they're matching contributions dollar for dollar.

I would love to go help out. My help wouldn't be in the life saving department though, more of helping rebuild once the rescue work is complete. I think then I would be an asset (well my business anyways) to work in the communications area (Low Voltage- Data/Comm.) I'm sure there's few miles of wire that needs to be pulled and terminated. But I'm with most of you, right now I'd just be in the way looking for my own pain meds, and like someone wrote earlier- my donations will probably help more, we'll see.

How about we help out by praying and returning to God. I am positive if we wouldn't forget about Him, He wouldn't forget about us. We have fell so far in this country. Oklahoma City, New York (9/11), New Orleans, where is next, San Fransico?
Read Revelation 16:10-12 -
10Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain,
11and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.
I understand this to still be in the future, but the message is the same. We have fell from God's loving grace as a nation. We would rather get rid of Him than need His grace. And of course, we I say "we" I am refereing to the nation in general. But "we" can expect more death and destruction until we repent. Keep in mind, it isn't God sending the storms, etc. He simply has lifted His hand from us and the natural course elements of the world are now pounding on us. No God = no protection. But that seems to be what the lib's want.

Wadi's right, most people would probably be in the way versus any kind of help. so the best most people can do is simply stay home and work and go to school and try to keep this country up and running. If you want to help, donate money to some relief effort or volunteer in some local relief effort. Like boxing up supplies to be sent to Luisiana.

Got This E-mailed to me:(Sorry IHL, kinda long  )
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).
Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?" In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.
Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school . the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK. Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK. Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."
Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!!

Anne Graham pretty well nailed it, I wonder how many are taking it to heart. Certainly not those who are afraid of offending non-believers or those who insist the Constitution contains something it doesn't.
For those of you on this forum who don't believe in God, I sure hope you aren't complaining about Katrina or cursing God (you know, the one you don't believe in).

I have chosen, (yes chosen on my own, no one thought for me, especially the government) to go to college, so I can support my family. I have to work hard and EARN money so if, God (opps, I said that hatted G word :icon_lol: ) forbid, something like this ever happens here, I will be equiped. Self perservation, what a scary response. Then again, I guess that is what makes us racest.

I would't step foot anywhere close to that cesspool. The way this has played out sickens me. I say we send in all the liberals, especially the celebrities who for some reason think I even give a damn what they think. Make sure there is plenty of media coverage so they can show the world how great they are, then have Bush send in another hurricane to finish them off.
