I recently saw a show, on a christian network in which they said that the Ku Klux Klan was not formed to kill blacks, but rather was formed by the post civil war democratic party, intended to kill republicans. And since on of the foundation principles of the Republican party was abloishment of slavery pretty much 100% of blacks joined the republican party. In many states hundreds of the first black elected officials were repubicans. They had a museum with artifacts in it also, and they showed the camera a real KKK hit card, with not only blacks, but 13 white republicans.

Interesting, I didn't know that. That would explain why the democrats refused to enforce civil rights issues until they were forced to.

This might be partially true but some of it is open to interpretation. If you want an objective description your can read about it HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan#The_original_Ku_Klux_Klan).

In an 1868 newspaper interview,[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan#endnote_forrestinterview) Forrest boasted that the Klan was a nationwide organization of 550,000 men, and that although he himself was not a member, he was "in sympathy" and would "cooperate" with them, and could himself muster 40,000 Klansmen with five days' notice. He stated that the Klan did not see blacks as its enemy so much as "carpetbaggers" (northerners who came south after the war ended) and "scalawags" (white Republican southerners). There was an element of truth to this claim, since the Klan did target these white groups, especially the schoolteachers brought south by the Freedmen's Bureau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bureau_of_Refugees%2C_Freedmen_and_Abandoned_Lands ), many of whom had before the war been abolitionists, or active in the underground railroad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_Railroad). Many white southerners believed, for example, that blacks were voting for the Republican party only because they had been hoodwinked by the carpetbaggers.

Here's some of what wikipedia has to say on the original, post-Civil War Klan

The original Ku Klux Klan was created after the end of the American Civil War on December 24, 1865 by six middle-class Confederate veterans who were bored with postwar Pulaski, Tennessee. It was at first a humorous social club centering on practical jokes and hazing rituals.[1] From 1866 to 1867, the Klan began breaking up black prayer meetings, and invading black homes at night to confiscate firearms. Some of these activities may have been modeled on previous Tennessee vigilante groups such as the Yellow Jackets and Redcaps.

...

In addition, the Klan sought to control the political and social status of the freed slaves. More specifically, it attempted to curb black education, economic advancement, voting rights, and the right to bear arms. However, the Klan's focus was not limited to African Americans; Southern Republicans also became the target of vicious intimidation tactics, and a wave of 1300 lynchings in 1868 was primarily a political purge rather than a racial conflict. The Klan became the violent arm of the Southern Democratic Party. As federal control of the ex-Confederate states was withdrawn, the local white population re-established their power.

This group was outlawed in 1871 and although the law banning it was reversed in 1882, the group essentially disappeard.

However, it reappered with the founding of a new, similar group operating under the same name in 1915.

This Klan was operated as a profit-making venture by its leaders, and participated in the boom in fraternal organizations at the time. It differed from the first Klan. The first Klan was Democratic and Southern, but this Klan boasted members from both the Democratic and to a greater degree Republican parties, and was influential throughout the United States, with major political influence on politicians in several states. It collapsed largely as a result of a scandal involving Republican David Stephenson, the Grand Dragon of Indiana and fourteen other states, who was convicted of the rape and murder of Madge Oberholtzer in a sensational trial (she was bitten so many times that one man who saw her described her condition as having been "chewed by a cannibal").

The "KKK" today is actually nothing more than a variety of fragmented groups which trace their ideological lineage to these older organizations.

the Jewish Anti-Defamation League wrote "Today, there is no such thing as the Ku Klux Klan. Fragmentation, decentralization and decline have continued unabated." However they also noted that the group's supporters' "need for justification runs deep in the disaffected and is unlikely to disappear, regardless of how low the Klan's fortunes eventually sink."

Some of the larger KKK organizations currently in operation include:

* Church of the American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
* Imperial Klans of America
* Knights of the White Kamelia

There is a vast number of smaller organizations.

Sorry that was long, but it should clarify the issue a bit.

It's clear from any objective study of their history that the Klan was originally created to protect southern whites from Northern whites, not an altogether bad thing at first. But that is all irrelevant because the Klan has since become a domestic terrorist orgainization. To give them any credibility is to give the Taliban credibility.

I'm a proud Republican Jew- something that, unfortunately, is few and far between. (Although more and more Jews are starting to adopt Republican tenets these days :)). Anyways, I read an article recently comparing anti-Semitism to anti-Americanism. There is an uncanny resemblance- Hitler blamed the Jews because they were 'too materialistic, too successful, too hardworking.' What are the labels given by anti-Americans?!? Virtually the same things; Americans are too wealthy, too successful, too capitalist. What a surprise, anti-Americans are looking more and more like Nazis every day.

Man, they must have some crafty devils in the back room, huh? :confused:It centers around the Dems age old tactic of buying votes. Making promises, not because they honestly care for the individuals involved, simply to get their vote. Spreading rumors/lies that Repubs wanted to get rich off the backs of blacks just like what happened during the days of slavery. Very cunning tactic, very dishonest, very typical.

Democrats definitely deserve credt for being smart. Whatever else they may be, they are without a doubt very intelligent. I just think they take the wrong side of most issues. But it's all subjective in the first place.
