i have heard linux is a great operating system.
my question is, What is so great about it?
why should i choose it over windows.
if you decide to answer please dnt give me that crap about how windows screws people or windows is evil or crashes constantly.

Linux, for one, is more secure. Less common=less spyware, adware, and viruses written for it.
However, it also means fewer other programs are written for it. If you just want it to browse the internet and do (basic) work, you should be fine. Games and other more unique programs will be harder to come by. If you have a big enough hard drive you could dual boot so that you can run windows and linux on the same machine.

isnt that jsut because its less targeted.
wouldn a dual boot system defeat the purpose of having it.
sorry for all the questions. i have heard how its so great but i havent been able to figure out why.
if its no good for more than simple computing i dont see why its so great.

I don't use it, but I do plan on looking into it.
Many find it simply a better system to work with than Windows, but I can't speak from experience.
It is more secure AND less targeted.
It's good for most things that you would need it for. Like I said, Linux-based games are hard to come by, also more unique programs (like architecture ones, for example) would probably be hard to get for linux. "Simple" computing isn't the word I would use since many who use linux are far beyond word processors and minesweeper in their computer abilities. They wouldn't use it if it limited what you could do with the machine.
dual-booting wouldn't defeat the purpose. A friend of mine set up his machine to dual boot. Use linux for most stuff, and windows if you need it for gaming or whatever.
