Pretty soon they will be handing out "Legalize it" bumper stickers.

I believe that the United States government should respect the voters' mandate on this issue.
Like the courts respected the voters' mandate regarding gay marriage bans and Proposition 187?
Say it with me: Liberal Double Standards.
Pretty soon they will be handing out "Legalize it" bumper stickers.
Not that I have a problem with weed being legalized, but there are so many other worthwile causes that one could spend their time on.

Well if the ACLU had something else to do, they would be trying to rid America of Christianity, so maybe it is a good thing they have something else to occupy their time. I dont have a problem with it being legalized either. If a hippie stoner wants to kill his own brain cells, I say go ahead.

yeah but when the hippie smoker drives under the influence, kills one of your good friends, gets out of his car "trippin," and makes the mistake of laughing before he realizes what he did, there's a chance if you're standing nearby there will be one less hippie and you'll be doin time for killing the SOB. i've come close... i've seen an accident in which a friend was almost killed by a smoker, he got out of the car, the guy was laughing, and my friend went ballistic. a few more inches and I probably would've had to kill the guy.

Hardcore smokers/trippers are usually brainless dolts in the first place, even sober. You should have sobered him up in a hurry.

Marijuana should NOT be legalized. Of course it relieves pain! It also relieves you of brain cells, cognitive thinking, senses, and especially money.
So does alcohol. Your point? It's the government job to decide what substances you are allowed to use to escape/enhance reality?
i have news for you, he wasn't laughing because of pot...maybe he was on something else. he was just an idiot in the first place.
you seem to have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about the behaviors of people that smoke marijuana.
FDM, correct for once, alcohol is clearly worse than marijuana...i can't see any reasonable arguement against that.

if it's not up to the gov't to restrict what substances people use, it shouldn't be up to the gov't to decide what punishment those abusers should get when they harm someone. If the gov't said, "ok, you can have your pot, and heroin, etc., and you hurt someone, their family should have permission to enact revenge and we won't stand in their way." If some "altered" person hits my friend and kills him, i should be able to pull out my .357 and reduce the human population by 1 person. I've had too many friends and loved ones hurt or killed by someone that was "altered" by drugs or alcohol get off scot-free or with only mild punishment. you hit my car drunk, you should buy me a new one and i should get a free pass to kick your ass pass by the gov't. you all want legal drugs, but you'll be all for gov't intervention and lieniency when your or some druggies actions cause problems. Alcohol already causes too many vehicle related deaths a year. we don't need more wide-spread, gov't encouraged substances on the road. see when you're drunk or high, many people think they still have the ability to operate a vehicle properly and are too prideful / impatient to catch a ride. DUI should hold a mandatory sentence of 10 years and then maybe people would wise up.

I have no problem with the government coming down harder on people who drive drunk (or high). The fact that I think people should be able to light up a joint in the privacy of their own home does not mean that I don't think there should be consequences if they hurt or kill somebody else while doing it.

Well, its the same thing with acahol, except people are more likely to drink alcahol than marijuana because it is less expensive. I definately agree that the person should get more time though, because when you are high or drunk, it isn't an accident, it is a likelihood.
