apparently sony has been participating in payola.
this is illegal. it also explains why so much sucky music is getting played.
for those who dont know
payola is where a record company pays money to a radio station for play of their records. this prevents smaller unknown groups who cant afford the big bucks involved from getting thier name out there.
this is terrible.

All those who are actually surprised at something like this, raise your hand.

i thought the government had pretty much put a stop to this kind of behaviour. The thing that surprises me is that a big company got away with it for so long. now i know how all of those sucky pop artists got so much play.

It also doesn't help that all that's coming out these days is insipid rap music and horribly monotonous 'alternative' rock music which is just 3 power chords played in succession and some kid screaming in to a microphone. Has anybody else noticed the death of the guitar solo in the past few years?

thye have been dead since nirbana made it big. ther 90's and 80's hair maetals /pop ruined music. with people tired of them they turned to rap.

I'll admit I listen to Rap and a little bit of new rock but true Rock is late 60s through early 80s. I hate punk rock and death rock.

We can only hope that popular music trends are cyclical and people will get fed up with rap. All that's missing right now is a new, truly creative, innovative rock band who knows more than a few fifth cords and some vocal talent. Screaming into the mic? It's almost as bad as rap music's complete lack of vocal range.
guitar solos are gone, because none of these new guy can play their guitar...
the 80's rock was good, it was all about the glamour and whatever, but listen to it, a lot of them could just shred up a guitar.
and now onto the actual point. why is this illegal? it sucks, i agree, but why illegal? if i own a radio station, i am operating it to make money. why can't i play whatever i want? if what i want to play is whatever people will pay me to play then i should be able to do it. and if i am willing to pay someone to play my music, then why shouldnt i be allowed to pay them to do it? It's my money, and its my radio station. It doesnt seem like anyone should be allowed to tell me what i can and can't broadcast (as long as it isnt crude).
