As far as the word "marriage" is concerned, doesn't the CHURCH control marriage? Call it legal unions if they MUST and have them as far from me as possible. And if I ever see them publicly displaying affection in the street I reserve my RIGHT to break the LAW and shoot them in the FACE.

Funny, Oi_Ve... that's not what the law professor told us during a constitutional law class, but whatever.

Funny, because what I stated is merely a parroting of the Constitutional law professor at the school at which I teach...but whatever.

Like the Con. itself, apparently the terminology is up for debate. In the police academy, our Con Law instructor, who is a law professor, stated quite clearly what our rights and powers are as police officers.

With all due respect to your professor, I think he's using the word "right" rather loosely. In the Constitutional sense, "rights" are God given that no government or people can infringe on. The government has "powers". There are government issued "rights" and these can be recinded by the government. Police may have the right (the loose definition) to stop an individual for some particular infraction. But the moment that infraction ceases to be against the law, the police have lost that right. Rather than viewing actions taken by police as being rights, it would be less confusing to views those actions as an excercise of police power.
Various courts of our country have tried to mix feudal with republican constitutional law. In feudal systems the king is sovereign, the citizens mere subjects. But, in a (constitutional) republic citizens are sovereign, government their servant.
The Bill of Rights is gradually being abandoned by political theorists and justices of the U.S. Supreme Court alike, in favor of the virtual absolute sovereignty of municipalities, counties, states, and the federal government.

Hey, I'm just sayin' what I learned. Whether we like it or not, that's the way it is. Ever heard of the police officer's bill of rights?

HillBilly, all of us are saying what we have learned. Where the debate comes in is those of us who have studied beyond what we learned in school or training, are clarifying many misunderstood elements. Unfortunately many of our teachers, professors et. al., don't have an accurate understanding either. They are teaching what they were taught. So what makes Oi and I think we're right? I don't know about Oi, but I've spend years in intense study and a lot of money in coming to understand the Constitution. I can't count the number of supreme court decisions I read (it really pretty fascinating).
Haven't heard of the police officer's bill of rights. Have it handy to post?

I agree sorta with the original poster, however, I have a feeling he was being way too soft, because any form of tolerance is bad. Tolerance is a coping mechanism against something poisonous, however, tolerance can only work for so long, an individual, or, a society WILL succumb to the effects of the toxin.

MV you also forget the commandment handed down to us from Jesus which is hate the sin not the sinner. i dont want to be forced to watch this but i dont want to take away their rights afforded to them by the constitution. as long as they arent doing anything perverted or illegal (like this monday) then they have every right to do as they please. now as a catholic i dont want them to do this abomination, and i do what i can to stop it but i will never take away someones rights cause as whovevers sig it is says we have to guard the rights of our enemies. you need to open up and see people as people. and im not being soft. if you threatn me, my family, my religion, or country then we have a problem and im willing to fight for it, but if you dont then i really dont care what you do

A person's lifestyle, especially if it amounts to something of a sexual nature (And Homosexuality certainly fits that bill) Has no place in any kind of school environment. If a straight man went into a school full of sixth graders and starting bragging about his womanizing, he'd be kicked out on the spot.
There is a definite double-standard here. Same thing with Hate Crimes legislation- They want people punished more severely for victimizing them than for victimizing someone else. They have the same rights I do under the constitution- no more, and no less. Should they be able to marry? Should be up to the individual church, as the state forcing this issue is a violation of the "Separation of Church and state" Legal theory they so love to toss around.

im glad we havent put the last nail in the coffin yet. there is so much left unresolved cg people have every right to do as they please once they reach the age of consent. marriage is a religious ceremony and the government has no right to force any church to legalize gay marriage its called seperation of church and state. however in the legal sense the country cannot pass any laws unless the people want it to. its called democarcy. find a leader u like vote for them and participate in your government by petitioning your officals.

And at that time, I think the revolution would have started....I would gladly grab the arms and go to war against these yahoos...
It should be quick...they don't have guns....they have "ridden" themselves of such items...

They won't try that until they've disarmed us. Since that will trigger a civil war I doubt they'll get that far.

Reminds me of that fella, Neo.
He was talking about the "upcoming" 2004 election.
He predicted TSUNAMIS, TIDAL WAVES, and the EMPEROR GEORGE LEAVING HIS THRONE!!!!!
Needless to say, he made a total ass of himself. Especially after Bush won the election.

Oh enjoy these last few months you arrogant, decieptful, lying, corrupt, elitist wackjobs. You had your chance. And you blew it.
Wow, some one is a little testy
America is tired of the paranoia. The spin. The arrogance. The win at all costs partisanship. The holier than thou patriotism. The homophobia. The cheap shots. The torture. The lies. The amateur Tax Policy. And the corruption.
Who died and made you the collective spokesman for all Americans?
So, if I look at the above statment, then you're saying that there was no spin, paranoia, win at all cost partisanship, cheap shots, lies and corruption before Bush?
That is what you are saying? right?
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHA
What a nutcase.
We're coming. It's gonna be swift and we're all gonna be laughing our collective @$$ off. And the cherry on top? is going to be articles of impeachment. So don't get too comfy, ok?
Now where did I hear this before? Oh, yeah that's right from the left wing crackheads for the entire year of 2004.
This idiot cracks me up.

A little paranoid huh? Listen there are plenty of churches and denominations that will perform the ceremony. No one is gonna make your church marry people. You guys can be sooooo strange.
Wait till November. . . you hear footsteps???

you can pass all the legislation u want sodie unfortuntly we have something called seperatin of church and state and it is, unfortuntly for you liberals, a two way street. the goverment cannot force a church to do anything. and you want to know something else we live in a democracy so as long as the majority doesnt want it, there will be no gay marriage. you want tolerance then you better tolerate us and our beleifs. as jim norton said about homosexuals, "they share a love that will never grow old because they will die of aids!"

My money says if indeed these are the numbers, there were no more than 1000 people asked.
1000 people out of a population of 300 million. What is that......0.0003% of the population were polled?
Yah, now THAT'S an accurate poll.

They've removed prayer from the schools. There's a bunch of Godless goosesteppers armed with a wrecking ball, and it's aimed at Mt. Soledad.
And now the Gays want to pervert the marriage institution the same way they've perverted intra-personal relationships. The ACLU is an enemy of free peoples, an enemy of God, and an Enemy of America. They're your enemy, too. But apparently, you're not aware.
