Regardless of big city political affiliations would it not be true democracy to let the country as a whole to decide who their leaders should be? Remember Bush won the popular vote sometimes the big cities will not always vote for a liberal candidate. Look at the Reagan administration he won by a land slide in most states.
There has never been a true Democracy that did not die by its own hand.
Democracies all too easily degenerate into mob rule.
In the matter of keeping the electoral College, my vote is for maintaining it.

Huh? The liberals (or Democrats anyway) did just fine with the popular vote in 2000, if memory serves me correct.
They did just fine with it, while they were attempting to throw out military votes and manufacturing votes for Gore. He didn't win. Even with Cheating he didn't win.

It's kind of a moot point. Changing or abolishing the electoral college would require a constitutional amendment, which means 37 states would have to vote for it.
Consider that Ohio has nearly 19 times the population of Vermont but less than 7 times the number of electoral votes. Switching to a direct election by popular vote means Vermont would give up a significant portion of its ability to influence elections. There are 15 states with 5 or fewer electoral votes. Why would any of them be willing to give up their influence?
You're more likely to see Hillary bear Guiliani's love child than for the electoral college to be modified.

But philosophically, do you believe that the electoral college should be repealed?

Philosophically, no I don't think it should be repealed. (As a matter of perspective, I think it's important to point out that it's highly unlikely for it to ever happen.)
My chief argument in favor of keeping the electoral college is that it maintains a power structure favorable to the states. And since much of the power that the states originally held has been usurped by the federal government, I'm in favor of letting them keep as much of it as possible. There is a reason we are the United States of America and not just America.

I used to think it should.. Until it dawned on me that it been repealed, Gore might have cheated until he became president, or worse.

When it is not in your favor you'll cry for its abolishment then, how six year old of you.

Only in the beginning. As I considered the issue, I determined that the alternative was literally rule by a mob.

As I said, only in the beginning. Ultimately, I came to realize that the Democrats want the electoral college banned, so it will be easier to cheat, and to enforce a mobocracy.
