View Full Version : Happy Birthday America
On July 4th, we claimed independence from Britain. In the short time since then, America has become the greatest country in the world. Some may choose to argue that, but most of them still choose to live here, regardless of their rhetoric.
America is great for many reasons. Its culture, its laws, but primarily because of our freedom. Other countries have their culture, they have their laws, they have much of what America has, yet there is one thing that separates America from other countries and one thing that has made America rise to the top - freedom. No other country offers it's citizens the freedom that Americans enjoy. That freedom has been gained, maintained and protected my our service men and women. So today I'd like you to join me in giving a special thank you to our service men and women around the world. Because of them, we are able to enjoy our way of life, have our parties, and gather with friends and families while many of them will not. Let us all remember their sacrifices today.
AmericaSupportsYou.mil (http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/) is an excellent web site to go and show your support today. Please visit their site and do what you can to thank our troops and show them that America truly does support them.
Happy Birthday America.

Ronald Reagan and The 4th of July
I remember how I felt as a young man in the early 80's. Reagan restored
a strong sense of pride and hope for this country after Carter thoroughly trashed both. He made us feel good to be an American. It's interesting to note that before Reagan, I voted for George McGovern and (gasp!) Jimmy Carter, as I come from a traditionally Democrat, liberal family.
The reason I voted for Reagan was not because of some entitlement
or perceived benefit to myself. I voted for Reagan because he had the
moral courage to stand up against an evil and corrupt empire. He
said "Mr. Gorbechov, tear down this wall". And why did Mr. Gorbechov
listen to Reagan? Was it due to focus group research? Could it have
been the polling data? No, I don't think so. It was "Peace Though
Strength" that put the fear of God into Mr. Gorbechov's heart. It was
because of Ronald Reagan that we won the Cold War and the world was
saved from nuclear annihilation.
G-d bless the USA and the legacy that Ronald Reagan left us!
I remain a thorn in the side of my family to this day

Dear United States of America,
Happy two-hundred twentyninth (229) birthday! Thank you so much for what you do for me . I know, I take you for granted every now and again, but you are the best. Thank you for giving the right to free speech and let me say what I want to say. Thank you for letting me have the freedom of religion. Thank you for letting me drink until my liver starts to hurt. Thank you for letting me place small wagers on the ponies. Thank you for letting me go down to the beach and look at the females wearing their bikinis. Thank you for the right to vote. Thank you for letting me pick a job of my choice. I hope you are around for another two-hundred twentynine (229) years, living large and kicking ass.
Owl,
P.S. Sei há algum que não gosta de você, mas quando o dia do juizo final vem, deixe-me dirigir o canticle de sangue, Eu os mostrarei nenhuma misericórdia!!!!

On every national holiday we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have fought and died for our freedom.
This 4th of July, that tribute has extra meaning, as we not only pay tribute to our past soldiers, but our soldiers today.
Millions of Iraqis and Afghans have voted over the past year, which is a huge testament to the universal yearning for freedom.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO ALL.

Happy birthday to America, the mosy kickin ass country in the world. I thank the founding fathers for risking thier necks to boldly create A new nation. A nation of freedom and prosperity. I thank God that I was born in this country as opposed to countries like somolia or afghanistan where due to health problems I would have been dead years ago. I am thankful that I can speak my mind without the fear of being arrested, tortured or killed. That is something people in Iraq had to deal with until we liberated them. I love this country and it's soldiers who put thier lives on the line to keep it that way. God bless our soldiers and God bless the U.S.!

Yup, and they above others, should be thankful they live in a country where they're allowed to voice their contempt of the government. Anywhere else they would be shot.
The community I live in is small. We had a great fireworks display last night. As the fireworks were being lit off, all kinds of patriotic songs were being played. It was great.
I'm thankful some of my ancestors came here in the early 1700's. I'm thankful some of my ancestors greeted the white man. Thank God, I was born American. Living here is a blessing. It falls upon my shoulders to perserve this country and not allow it to fall by the wayside as the Roman Empire did.

Happy 229th, America! Thank you for lastng so long! Thank you for your freedom! The freedom to choose where I live, the freedom to choose what I drive, the thought that brave men and women are dying so that I don't have to wear the same clothes as everyone else and praise the dictator every day (as they used to do in China), the freedom (sort of) to be a Christian, and, most importantly, the freedom to be pissed off, at liberals or anyone else.
Yesterday, on the 4th of July, I witnessed the most truly American thing I have ever seen. In liberal southern California, where I live, all the cities have this nasty habit of banning all fireworks, except the really expensive one where a company has to come and set them off in some park. Anyway I was at my aunt's where fireworks are banned and down the street there was a family setting off fireworks (just the kind that stay on the ground) in the street in front of their house, like any American should be allowed to do. These people risked a hefty fine and possible jail time (that's how serious the liberals around here are about fireworks). Yet they loved their country enough to defy the authority and light their own fireworks. Remember that America was founded by men that were breaking the law. Those men were the best lawbreakers of all time and I thank them and the soldiers that follow in their footsteps to ensure freedom.

Hey Hey we liberals are not unthankful. Everyday I am alive enjoying life, working hard to accomplish my goals and dreams, living in comfort, and hanging with my buddies i kno i owe it to my parents and also to a country that i have nothing but gratitude for being good to me and my family. Forfor the fourth of july i visited some veterans i do community service for at a retirement center to talk and help out. I also got contacted by the nrotc program for my acceptance to the university of san diego it looks like i might be joining the marine corp while going to college to pursue my dream of becoming a journalist. I feel lucky for I think i am living the American Dream!

Some people rip on American for being a young country, but i heard a rebuddle somewhere that despite that, we're the oldest government on the planet...meaning that every other country has changed their system and we haven't, do any of you know if this is true? I believe it, but confirmation would be good.

If you don't count Japan, that's probably accurate. The Japanese royal family has been in power since the beginning of their recorded history (or the beginning of human history, if you go their myths), but as it stands now, Japan is a democratic nation, not a monarchy.
I can't think of any other governments that have been in power that long.
