I keep bumping IHL's thread about the over-use of the quote feature, but is appears that nobody wants to pay any attention to the man's request. VERY disappointing.

Here's the deal: Stop it. If you are answering to an above post, it is rarely necessary to quote it. We get it. Seriously, we understand the flow of the conversation. It is also unnecessary (most of the time) to use an entire quote from a members post which may be a bit further back in a thread. I occasionally quote something in it's entirety when I just want to be sure it is saved and not edited out. Most of the time, we can just answer with our own remarks though.

The lengthy quotes are making the threads too long and it is just completly unnecessary. So stop it already.

Also, some of the name calling is back. Same with the whining. If you wish to be a member of a site where that sort of childishness is the norm, please PM me and I assure you, I can and will direct you to one of those sites so that you can feel at home. There are plenty of trash forums out there. This isn't one of them.

I apologize if my tone seems harsh. It's just that I know how things can spiral out of control too quickly.

I request this: After reading this post, please just reply stating that you have read it and understand my requests. Please, no lengthy diatribes. Just let me know that you've read this.

Thankyou, TARlings.

Got it TL - Will use more of the "@" tags to indicate who I'm referring to and cases where quoting is necessary, I'll limit it only to the pertinent sentences.

Understood.

But I can still use lines such as "donkey molesting sewage swilling slimey leftist a$$clowns" when I am speaking GENERALLY, cant I??? Or is that over the top?

Got it (on use of quotes). I hadn’t read this before. When quoting an outside source preparatory to a link in which it is found, it would be required I would think.

yeah right...

I honestly don't get it. Why are members STILL quoting an above post in it's entirety in order to reply to it? It is completly unnecessary. WE GET IT! We understand the flow of conversation!

This site is being eaten alive with this stuff. It makes it incredibly frustrating to wade through - especially when reading on a mobile device.

Stop with the excessive quoting. I assure you, we get it when you are responding to someone when you do something like, oh, I don't know .. refer to them by screen name?

At MightyRighty I saw them editing down quotes with a (snip) indicator. I thought that was a cute way to pare things down. I still like that unless the comment is really close to the original post. Otherwise I get just as confused trying to trace the ^'s back to the source as I do when the same whole quote clutters things up over and over.

I am down for the struggle as the urban turbans like to say, that is to say I avoid the unnecessary use of quotes. The explanation of trying to read it in a mobile device lends impetus to my efforts to avoid them whenever possible and should motivate all of us.

I'll answer that in the coat closet, JP.
