"I cannot swallow (http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/local/11992619.htm) whole the view of Lincoln as the Great Emancipator," Obama said. "As a law professor and civil rights lawyer and as an African-American, I am fully aware of his limited views on race. Anyone who actually reads the Emancipation Proclamation knows it was more a military document than a clarion call for justice."

Obama is correct. Lincoln did draft the Proclamation as a political maneuver. With the South kicking the North's ass on the battlefield despite overwhelming odds against them, and the possiblity of European intervention on the side of the Confederacy, Lincoln issued the EP to stigmatize the South's slavery and to dissuade any country from coming to the aid of a slave-holding nation (which is a supreme irony considering that the North was a slave-holding nation as well). Obama was just stating a fact.
Not that I like him for it.
sometimes the action is all that matters, not the feelings behind it.

What an idiot. Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents, and Osama Oboma (as uncle Teddy called him once in his usual drunken stupor), acts like he was just another racist president. Sick.

Dumbass freshman senator aside, it is always a convenient tactic of liberals to take todays "values" and impose them on some long-passed generation in order to discredit them in their typical liberal smear-tactic manner, and act all horrified. It was a different world back then. If slavery was indeed mainstream at that time, given that context, that makes Mr. Lincoln a hero. Just because Lincoln didn't jump up and down, screaming and making a jackass of himself playing race cards left and right, does not make him any less of a President. Furthermore, osama obama just hates him because he's white.
I bet that asshole is in favor of reparations for slavery too:

He shouldn't. His mother is white from Kansas and his father is a Kenyian National. Plus it was illegal to have slaves in Kansas so he is out of luck.

Doesn't matter. Lots of whites in parts of the country that never had slavery and who've probably never seen a real live black person support reparations.

Then what the heck is his stake in anything to do with slavery??? Now THAT is RACIST!!!!!!!!! Oh, since I have dark skin I am going to identify with blacks and say awful things about Abe Lincoln.... Imagine that, for absolutely no reason, with no stake whatsoever, I am going to take sides against whites. What a crock of bullshit.

Since nobody actually read Obama's entire piece, just the quote about Lincoln not being the idylic figure he's made out to be, this quote may shed some light on his opinion of the man:
So when I, a black man with a funny name, born in Hawaii of a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas, announced my candidacy for the U.S. Senate, it was hard to imagine a less likely scenario than that I would win--except, perhaps, for the one that allowed a child born in the backwoods of Kentucky with less than a year of formal education to end up as Illinois' greatest citizen and our nation's greatest President.
See http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1077287,00.html for the entire article, which has the quote contained in the original post. Obama is not slandering Lincon, merely observing that he was a man, with his own imperfections, but a good man nonetheless (in his opinion).

Reparations is a redistribution of wealth scam. THere is not a person alive today that has ever owned a slave or beena slave. In my opinion, to get reparations, you should have been a slave in YOUR lifetime.
To be consistent, these 'african americans' ought to seek reparations from the lineage of the black tribes in africa that hunted the slaves down, caught them and sold their asses to the white traders.
African American, my ass. my red haired, green eyed daughter is more african american than any of these morons will ever be.

I've made that point in the past. It's good to hear it from someone who's actually lived in Africa.
