View Full Version : What TAR Is Not

I'll just be blunt - TheAmericanRight is not a hate site.

Some of the posts that I've seen here lately are pretty disgusting and are at the lower end of the conversation totem poll.

I work hard at trying to promote this great little site and perhaps bring in some more interesting and thoughtful members. But what do people see when they come here lately? Do they see articulate writing with thoughtful idea's and opinions? Sure. It is here. But potential members are also just as easily turned off by the petty name calling and Hate Posts.

If I were not already a long time member here, I possibly wouldn't join after seeing some of the things I've seen posted recently. How does that grab you?

Look, we've got some pretty great opportunity here with TheAmericanRight. But I've got to tell you, that it thoroughly pisses me off when I hear from potential members who I invite in, as well as from people who are already here, that they are having second thoughts about spending time here because of a few posts that aren't really the norm for us.

I don't want to lose people - but it has happened. So, I'm going to ask nicely that people take a little more time and think before they post. Think about how what you say reflects on the site. Although technically TAR is IHL's site, it really is more like OUR site - all of us. It's the people who make it what it is. So, what do you want to make TAR into? A site where people come in and read it and then walk away thinking that it's a site full of haters, bigots, homophobes etc? Is that really good for our cause? No - it isn't.

TheAmericanRight is a place for thoughtful conversation with a little fun thrown in. Let's keep it that way. Think before you post.

I love you guys!
Really though,I think what you are detecting is how sick alot of us are of the direction our country is heading,it's hard to throttle back sometimes.

I agree though that we need to keep it within reason...

I understand the passion and the emotion, Lee. Sometimes we all need to exercise a little more self-dicipline though. I include myself in that.

Let's all just work to do our best in order to keep the site respectable. That's all I'm asking.

I know you are talking about me TL and I am sorry even though sorry doesn't cut it all the time, I am sorry. My passion and conviction for some topics are so very strong and to see others tossing stones infuriates me into a rage at times. I will try to control and chill out, however I have no PC in me and will call it the way I see it. The PC is one reason this country is in the spot it is in now.

It isn't targeted at any one person, NF.

My concern is for the site as a whole. I want us to look good to those who come here. I want conservatives to want to join us and I want for liberals who lurk, to see intelligent and thoughtful conversations. What I don't want is for liberals to come here and see that their stereotypical views of conservatives are highlighted here in some posts, and for them to come in and feed on all of us, thinking that we all share the same views - we don't.

Never give a liberal what he wants - ever.

Agreed. I think that we can be proud of much of what we've done here over the years. We've got great members and I like the variety of personalities and backgrounds. It's an interesting view of people all across the country.

Let's just keep on track with building the site and keeping it as a place that we can be proud to call our own. I wouldn't be out telling people about it and inviting more people in if it were not something that I'd be pleased to be associated with.

Like Lee said: I love you guys!

If I ever cuss a lot its only my anger showing through on how our country is getting so f**ked up right now that it’s the complete opposite it's not so much Obama more so just the blind ignorance on display the past months just boggles my mind. I never thought our country would ever be like this, but I really do believe a media is playing a role in this; because the truth just isn’t getting out and when they finally do see the truth its always Bush this Bush that and they are so blinded by their hatred for Bush that they are not willing to comprehend truth even when its staring them in the face.

Sorry I am getting totally off topic from the original post but yes TL I agree with you this isn’t a hate site like the Democratic Underground, Daily Kos or the Huffington Post.

Well TL, feel free to remove objectionable posts at your discretion. It clearly states in the rules that all posts are subject to the approval and discretion of the moderators.

Trust me, I'm as passionate about what is going on as the next guy but I try to contain myself on the site. Maybe not contain myself, but at least act like a somewhat educated adult. Which is what I am for the most part - somewhat educated and somewhat of an adult.

And the first one to bring up the censorship crap gets censored.

I've been trying to be more "Family friendly" as it were, lately. Yesterday... Well, sometimes, you just cannot keep it in. But we DO have a great site here, and I thank IHL for it. Maybe we need some club vests.

*Bump*

Look, a lot of us are pretty upset about the direction our country is headed in. I know I am. In fact, I am absolutly furious as the news stories keep coming out about how our government is betraying our citizens. The lies and deceit (although not unexpected from this president and his administration), are almost too much to take.

What's equally hard to take are the people who are still supporting this disaster. I really can't even fully wrap my mind around it. And then to top it all off, I, like a lot of the people here, fully understand that this is probably going to become even worse. The more the American people resist this take over of our way of life, the more vicious people like Obama will become. That is what I believe.

So I understand the anger. It's easy to want to lash out. And a certain level of venting is completly healthy AND appropriate (IMO). What really isn't so appropriate is how some of our TAR members choose to word their exchanges with one another. Some of the insults and name calling between members has come back around again.

Let's try and be conscious of the fact that potential new members may see these things and be so completly turned off by it that they don't want to join us. We do get a lot of lurkers here and although I have no idea which side they may be on, I really don't like this idea that they may avoid participating because of some of the exchanges between members.

I'll trash this damned government all day long. They deserve it. But all of the people who come here and take the time to post their true idea's and opinions deserve to be treated as equal members of the forum.

Let's stop the name calling. Remember - we were all lurkers at some point before we joined. Let's remember how the conversations looked and why we decided to join. And let's try and keep the forum more inviting for lurkers who may be considering joining us here at The American Right.

Thanks,
TL

Let's take a moment to reflect on what it means to us to have a place like TAR where we can come to exchange news, ideas and opinions. My ... what shall we do? Shall we allow our wonderful little site fall into ruin? Lose credibility? Or, should we try and improve the site?

We've got some really intelligent people here. Good writers and researchers. I say we use whatever skills that each of us possess and challenge ourselves to improve TAR.

That said, I will again admit that we are in times of great peril and many of us are extremely stressed. Some of us have things in our personal lives that only add to the angst. So I know that it's hard to keep composure at times. But we need to try harder. I am willing and I hope that all of the TAR Pals are as well.

Thanks.

yeah right...

...Maybe we need some club vests.

I like the vest your avatar is wearing right now, Dr. Madd (the one with the red cross). Only we should put T.A.R. in the upper RIGHT quadrant, no? Then in the lower left... if Obama's face wasn't copyrighted, I'd almost go with a ventriloquist dummy, but since we want to play nice here, how about a bankroll of money burning? Then in the UPPER left, maybe a tree? In my doggy moments I would happily accede to that one. Then on the LOWER right quadrant (look deep now) a megaphone?

How about the coiled rattlesnake of Gadsen?

frogdogbirdtree
04-01-2011, 03:03 PM
^Instead of the megaphone, I would go with the coiled snake not to be tread upon... Oh, but in the matter of left versus right it should be as read by the person we face, which is a mirror image. This is always confusing to patients trying to interpret a chart for electrode placing during cardiac rehab training. Our left side is their right side... Nevermind. Let's just go with the snake by herself.
